Digital zoom is like cropping a photo but the camera is doing it for you in the process instead of you cropping it manually after you had shot the photo.

Read on 'field-of-view fusion' zoom section. Its not just digitally cropping to call it as 'normal' digital zoom. Lots of other algorithm involve. For me, i'll separate the quality between 'hybrid' & 'digital' zoom. And yes, 10x are the max for P30 Pro (of course pure 10x optical will be better). Zooming beyond that, its a trash 'normal' digital zooming quality.

Shui8, 17 Jan 2020The hybrid zoom that Huawei use are far better than any nor... moreI Had a huawei for 2 years and used a P30Pro for 2 weeks to try the beast, I know what hybrid zoom is, it's a digital zoom applied to other lens. The x5 is a digital zoom applied to the x2 or x3 optical zoom. Of course it's better than a digital x5 zoom from the main camera! The ratio is not the same. Hybrid zoom is just a slight x2 or x2.5 digital zoom applied to each optical lens, alloying a x5 and a x15 without too much trouble. And it's not especially a huawei thing btw.
I never said hybrid zoom was worse or the same than a digital zoom, I just pointed out it was a digital zoom, applied to other focal lens. So trashing digital zoom is somewhat awkward if you praise hybrid. I, for myself only use optical zoom, don't care about hybrid/digital.

Yes its cropped, but cleverly upscale & fill in edges using other focal length lens. Still a usable sharp detailed images, rather than just a normal digital zoom, and still far better than Super Res Zoom that Pixel provide.

Main, UWA, 10x optical & ToF is confirmed. The other one is still a mystery. Hopefully its a 3x optical zoom, and if its true, it has the most versatile focal length on a phone, ever.

27mm - Main
80mm - 3x optical
125mm - 5x hybrid
240mm - 10x optical
360mm - 15x hybrid
Dont care about digital zoom.

Does this mean that the effective pixel count will increase by 4x? What would start out at 0.96 micron pixel would end up being 3.84 micron pixel. If that's true, this could be one hell of a smartphone!
