ToF does not have high resolution.
They are always less than 1MP, since they are not capable of doing photos nor videos.

My point is that Samsung and Apple could have had 1/1.8" or 1/1.5" in 2018/2019 if they wanted too.
They just did not want to. Bigger sensors cost more.

I still use a real camera. All photos look great on a tiny 6" smartphone. When you take the same photo and view on a half decent PC monitor, you realise the photos on these smartphones are low-grade quality. The smartphone camera can't capture detail and that matters when you enlarge photos.

          But, do try.

MadMel, 16 Jan 2020don't be driven by jealousy, S20 cameras are also top-notch... moreLol, not a chance, those p things will be available just for die hard fanboys in china and some asiatic countries, in my region, only the low end ccp huawei gadgets somewhat sell, and carriers retired or sent back the expensive ones, they can be found in gray markets, but even those do not sell very well, lol

I like that Huawei are very active in terms of trying new camera tech. Don't trust them as a company (don't need proof), and the curved screen was ridiculous on two sides, and more so on 4. But, I like that they keep plugging away.

People here said that it will have better photos than my iphone 8. I will write my impressions here after i buy it in March or April latest.

Anonymous, 16 Jan 2020Will pictures better than my iphone 8 ???No Sir. For that, you would require lasik surgery.

The Huawei P40 Pro will have 2 large sensors (40MP and 52MP), one periscope zoom and a ToF sensor.

Interesting setup. Huawei has been doing some serious work on their cameras, for a while. The P40 Pro will be the governing standard for smartphone photography in 2020. That may be the camera to beat.

AnonD-762416, 16 Jan 2020Classic useless specs numbers by Huawei. It's 4-1. Period. ... moreDon't forget their fake 7680fps of Mate30P. And the fake 6x10W of Honor Smart Screen. Fake after fake is Huawei.
Also this duo prism rumor seems like clickbait, I fail to see what a second bend in the light path achieves. One prism solves the issue of the length of the optical path limited by Z height, but after this prism there's plenty of room for increasing FL whereas the aperture and sensor size now become limited by the Z height, which limits effective resolution by diffraction, and DR. While a second prism could enable a larger sensor somewhat improving DR, the limiting factor here is the aperture which can't be increased.

                          4 to 1 byer and 16 to 1 byer !
How is it possible ? Byer sensors are specifically made for 1 specific binning. So, If 4 to 1 is the hardware binning then what is 16 to 1 binning ?
I'm not going to believe this unless It happens.
