this is ridiculous, after waiting months for the update and reading all about it and then suddenley being told we wont get it? ive been a windows phone user for a year and a half now and i have gotten every update since i bought it. the guys at windows should be ashamed, ditching their faithful and loyal users like this. well that settles it, im switching to iOS this winter. iPhone 5 here i come!

Just got my Samsung focus flash about a month ago I like the phone WP mango is ok, Like MrMarkus said doesn`t have production quality, so if they wont give us the update them why dont they release the OS so that non license developers can modify the system offering support to thier customers that they dont want to provide. the os is nice just needs a lot of work and ms clearly not doing anything about it. MS sucks

Your cup of woes would continue with Android. Not all apps downloaded display the same way in various Android devices. Thanks to too many manufacturers with different screen resolutions and sizes.
Now, enter Apple. The phone is minimalistic yet great. They have better controls over app development standards.
Your search will end with Apple.

Looks like it is time to switch to Android. Think I will spend another chunk of change to "upgrade' my hardware. Definitely a "windows phone" killer for me.

Imo, it will be technically possible to upgrade any existent WP7 phone to WP8 "IF" the manufacturer will support the upgrade. Nokia will most certainly will, HTC might as well, others idk. Microsoft alone is not able to claim that all the phones will be upgraded.
The answer is not either will or will not, it is rather in between...

We must thank Nuno Silva for correction of the information. Unfortunately the situation is not good for current Windows Phone devices owners. I really like my Omnia W. But I`m enterprise custom software developer too and current WP 7.5 Mango from my point of view doesn`t have production quality. Its typical beta version with many fixed bugs but it still needs implement some feature requests. There are many issues with Outlook - Exchange integration, security policies, the lack of VPN support. Windows NT kernel itself has potential to correct many of these issues.

Microsoft have definetly not clearly said that every Lumia will get the update, because when they today are asked they can not clearly confirm that every Lumia will be upgraded! Old promises is worthless when the developers today see that older Lumia simply can not handle the upgrades, but if they today admit this then the sales of Lumia phones would drop and Nokia would die as a company!
Remember how Microsoft promised upgrades and Adobe Flash for Windows Mobile 6.5 but these promises turned out to be nothing but lies to keep up the sales!

AnonD-29613, 19 Apr 2012For all I know, this update about the Nuno Silva interview ... moreThis is the 6.5 to 7 updates all over again. The silence from MS on this is deafening, which implies they will not be updating them. This is preceisely why I will never buy another MS O/S phone again. Who in their right mind is going to buy any MS phone product before WP8 is launched now?

For all I know, this update about the Nuno Silva interview is "outdated", his information wasn't confirmed by Microsoft officially, and it came up later that some inside sources (don't ask me, ask CNET, Gizmodo and other news stands) guarantee the current phones won't get WP8 Apollo.

So don't get your hopes up guys.

First of all my 1st post is before the Update of GSMArena News! and my second post is after GSMArena update ; and in my second post I just explain about my first post , which I thought you didn't understood clearly! I said that in my first post Samsung Windows Phone may be won't get Apollo update not because of MicroSoft but because of themself and I give the example of their Android device Galaxy S!

                              By the way I am the former user of Samsung Galaxy S; which is fantastic but I hate the look of phone and when they confirmed they won't provide official ICS then I leave that ; Now I am using Nokia E6 which is not superb phone but it handles my needs so smoothly;
I am happy with it because it fullfill my daily needs!

And at last thanks for your valuable comments! Have a Great time! Because it's my last comment in this topic!

now people know this wp mango device will be obsolete model,

Arjun, 18 Apr 2012"Existing Hardware wouldnt support the Apollo" - ... moreWell they can always resort to excuses like they did for 6.5 on the HTC HD2. It has 5 buttons instead of 3 on the front panel and then churn out the HD7 which is virtually identical!!!

MeeGo is ceased. precisely from sep 2011.I dont know why people still wish for the non existent entity, whilst its officially announced. I reckon if you had so much liking and confidence in MeeGo (applies to any platform/brand) Please get the correct information. OR else try listening what others say.

MeeGo is taken over and now called as Tizen, by SAMSUNG. If you are interested Samsung shall unveil this in a sepeate even soon.

Coming to the current post of yours:
You sure GalaxyS did not get proper support? Have you used it ever? It had got 5 Major updates from the date of its release. Its a 2 year old phone in android platform which no other phone has got so good support. Check your facts

This article speaks that All win 7 devices are eligible for the upgrade, How can you confirm Samsung Omnia will not get the update? i'd like to see if you can post any official proofs.

The new info comes from a Microsoft ...evangelist? Isn't that just another word for fanboy? I can't find any info on this guys reliability but as far as I can tell he's not even employed by Microsoft, so why are his words taken as gospel? Especially when the word from Microsoft itself is leaning heavily towards no.

Let's face it: by confirming that WP7.5 devices will get WP8 Microsoft could clear some air over WP and WP really would need that. The whole thing is basically just another nail more in its coffin so why wouldn't they confirm it if it were true? From not telling one way or another Microsoft only benefits one thing: people will buy current WP7.5 devices falsely hoping that WP7.5 will be updated. To me it's pretty clear: this alone proves that WP7.5 devices won't be getting WP8. It's time to move on.
