24 January 2020
Not to mention that the transition to a single charging port will cost over a billion euros, according to a study commissioned by Apple.

By stifling innovation, Apple means it will stifle their ability to force pointless proprietary connectors on customers and then make them buy accessories from them or vendors who have to pay Apple a licensing fee, thereby stifling Apple's capacity to make billions from what is essentially a semi-monopolistic cartel, and in the process stifle Apple's capacity to further contribute to waste and carbon emissions from the production of unnecessary proprietary accessories, which are required for Tim Cook and Apple's employees to make big big bucks and feel superior to everyone.

Yes I absolutely agree, and I've said the same facts backed up with proof.

Despite losing market share, apple is still the most profitable, & judging by it's consumer comments they don't mind anti- consumer practices or paying excessively.
    Fine that's their business.

But like you when it comes to aggressive tax avoidance/ evasion, human rights & damage to the evironment I draw a line.

I totally agree with a universal cable for all smart phones. After all Apple are putting usb c ports on there latest macs. So why moan. Personally i think a good idea to all same leads. Stops having to have different cables for different models.

the usb consortium is a totally fraudulent group that has acted very regressively in the past decade. when the usb-c port was introduced, it was expected to to support only usb 3 and above. BUT turns out they brought support for usb 2 too! and then they renamed usb 3 & 3.1 into something else which currently makes it utterly mystifying for customers to understand what exactly it is that they are buying. Its even worse than the past fraud they did with USB 1.1 where they renamed it to USB 2.0 'High Speed' or something. Their attempt to justify this name change and the claims that they haven't renamed an older speed spec into usb 3 is laughable. In any case, there is no manufacturer who will voluntarily declare their speed spec is lower than the latest by mentioning Gen 1, Gen 2 etc. and nobody has done do as of date.

Utter Fraud. And EU is silent about this. Why? Money? Vested interests? Most likely.

EU itself should be investigated for trying to push oppressive policies onto innovators. Microsoft will promote Microsoft stuff as default in Microsoft products because its their product and their choice to do so. Similarly Apple, Google, Amazon, Volkswagon, General Motors, Tesla etc. all have the right to do so. Can I fit a Suzuki steering on a Mercedes? or a BMW door on a GM? Why isn't EU looking at that?

As a matter of fact, the only reason usb-c came into being was because apple brought the lightning cable. USB was too lethargic about the spec and never bothered upgrading itself. And frankly, while apple's cables itself aren't that great in quality, the connectors in specific have brilliant designs. The lightning connector is far superior to the usb-c connector primarily due to one reason - the pins aren't in the centre like the usb-c connector's design.

This is 100% solid BS from apple. Conforming to international standards will stifle innovation? The EU should just ban all lightning port products and wake apple up, it's a much needed wake up call.

Apple will just find a way to restrict the type c cable to make you have to pay for extra functions, they will do something to it to limit its customers for profit.

Anonymous, 25 Jan 2020Why does Google get fined, but Apple doesn't?Because it is a DRAFT law. It is not yet a law. Once, the EU Parliament making their decision, by that point of time, it will become a law. Which is why Apple try to appeal before it become a law.

potato4k, 25 Jan 2020E-waste? Talk to the Chinese who keep making cheap Android ... moreHello... Are this proposed law about the device, or the connector? If it was the device, then yes, your point are on the mark. But if it was the connector, mind you that Apple's cables are virtually lasted less than a year. In some cases, only last around 6 months.

This cable waste IS the issue. If they use a common connector, with common pin usages, any iPhone user can switch to other cable which actually last longer instead of buying short lived-more expensive Apple cable. Of course Apple refused. This is basically shaving one of their main revenues.

Your opinion is the most biased piece of garbage I have ever heard. Your taking info from 4-5 years ago an putting it as a modern fact. Well heres where you are wrong. Some Android phones created in 2016 are getting android 10. In case you didn't know, like all other Iphone Users. That is the newest software version. And another thing, just because Apple have an outdated port, doesn't make them bad. They just need to upgrade. So don't go telling me I am biased. Cause that's just proving my point. Incase you didn't know, I genuinely like iPhone's. Case Closed.
