24 January 2020
Google has been preparing a feature for sharing files that acts much like Apple’s AirDrop.

    I don't like what Google's doing.

Not just in terms of the restrictions with 8, 9 and 10.

I think that removing Android Beam was a mistake. I think that the way they approached Near Share is a mistake too. Google sometimes opts for standards like with RCS. Why not improve Wi-Fi Direct or something? Windows 10 has Nearby Sharing, Android will have Near Share and Apple has AirDrop. This kinda sucks. More limited stuff ain't cool

Better third party apps available on Android.
No need for this inbuilt app which requires bluetooth, WiFi and location.
Third party apps require none of those things.

This is just like Apple's proprietary AirDrop feature. Isn't it illegal to copy/clone said feature?

Google is a despicable company anyway, so can't expect much from them either way...

Whackcar, 25 Jan 2020Apps like Xender & MiDrop have been around since long. ... moreYes but this is way faster, almost twice the speed of those apps, according to the xda guy in the video. Also, this method is way more convenient.

Google killing it's own app developers. Wait they doing it from the beginning

Apps like Xender & MiDrop have been around since long. I remember i used to use Xender to share files through WiFi with my friends back in 2013/14, so the concept isn't anything new.

Google should've implemented this feature long ago, but as usual they're always late to the party.

Is it not the same thing that Wifi Direct? I don't get the point of this... wifi direct allows you to share movies and all without using your data or wifi. Kinda confused!

Paulogo, 25 Jan 2020But files has this feature alreadyYes, it does, they are baking it in the Play services just so it can be used as an OS service rather than a different app.

if Google does not provide the same application for different operating systems, then this new feature is just another bloatware.
Because SHAREit is already available for Android, IOS, Windows and even MacOS.
