Mate series introduce the new chipset and the P series improve upon the current Mate (photography wise). If you want the new chipset, wait for the new Mate flagship this coming Q4.

This ugly design started with ... morebecause with sandwich design its more cheaper and easy to build instead of unibody, plus with glass sandwich design they could incorporate nfc and wireless charging features, and prone to crack so they could charge their consumer for replacement. And don't forget, huawei design often 'inspired' by apple or any popular brands
