I’m trying to find these studies which prove that without any luck. Closest things I could find is that human eye can see single flash of light at 500fps speed, meaning really short flash, there is no evidence whatsoever that there are any humans possible at telling the difference even between 200 and 400 hertz.
Unless we all evolve and become superhumans, there won't be any need for 120+ hertz frame rate on your smartphone.
But phone manufacturers want you to believe there’s significant need for that, since they want to have a reason to charge you more for their product. Aditional benefit is battery drain and battery degradation meaning you'll either have to buy another phone sooner or pay them to replace your degraded battery. They also get to boast about quality of their screen.
It’s a WIN-WIN-WIN for them, but not so much for you.

On mobile cameras 8k video is basically proper 4k just like how 4k video is actually proper 1080p video in terms of detail and bitrate. It's the same streaming principle of quality scaling: Netflix or Apple TV UHD content rivals original 1080p Blu Ray in quality, sometimes. UHD Blu Ray is still untouchable by any streaming service.
Problem with shooting 4K and 8K on such small sensors is field of view cropping as well as lack of light compared to FHD or HD. I think a lot better approach would be to nail 1080p recording and then upscale it to 4K if needed but then they can't market their products as 4K or 8K.

Consumer stuff processes the image too, otherwise it will normally look poor. However, just looking at low light examples in gsmarena tests, you see massive losses in various phones more than others, in order to clean up noise.
So, unless you can record in enough quality for good post processing you need to do the processing before recording. Thus could be their new pre processing.

But 4k on a tiny... morenailed it. those who refute value of high refresh rate screens most likely have not experienced this first hand. for mobile phones, the way to go is higher and higher refresh rate more than higher resolution. higher resolution proves to be much more of a gimmick than high refresh rate.
