Maybe they didn't have the choice since they initially wanted to use underdisplay camera, then since they could not do a good enough one for selling it, they reverted to something else in a hurry and we ended up with a stupid punch hole.
But if underdisplay camera were to be impossible, one would have hope they would revert to mechanized system like the original as unlike punch hole and notch it allow to put a lot of sensors into the phone without sacrificing the display, which allow for secure face unlock (that a lot of peoples, after experiencing it for the first time really want) with dot projectors and IR camera and other amazing sensors.
Based on the rarity of the pop up modules compared to notches and punch holes, for a Smartphone made for showcasing innovations, this is really a poor choice to put a single punch hole...
I've written tons of time why punch holes and notches are inferior solutions, outside of just discontinuing the display, they force lower number of sensors to be use, meaning useful ones are simply removed, such as ambient light and proximity, which both do a way better job (more precision, faster, less computing power and battery drain) than using a camera and secure face identification sensors for example, but even floodlight...
All that for a "fullscreen" experience made by removing a chunk of the display.
They would have been better staying with the pop up system and just used the leçons learned to improve its reliability, or even better making a waterproof one...Or simply put a thin bezel like the Meizu 16 serie (16th, 16th Plus, 16, 16S, 16Xs, 16S Pro and 16T) but rather than keeping that stupid notch/hole trend that now forced everyone to put a single almost useless camera even on bezels, load it with lots of useful sensors, that's would have been actually great as many peoples prefer the "old" bezel that didn't allow for fullscreen experience than the punch hole or notch.
Or a great achievement would be to put sensors in the border (that won't go away soon as it is not wishable since it protect the display) like this fan made speculative (but unlikely) render of the IPhone 2020 :

That would be a great use of space !
But IPhone don't need to remove the Notch, it is actually a perfectly fine, if not great idea as the side of the top portion of the display on IPhones are basically just here to show a constant number of icons, there is not waste of space and they put an incredible amount of sensors in that notch, which totally justify it, but on Android where even the small teardrop notch can actually reduce the number of active indications on screen, just for a single camera, that's a really bad trend which is unjustified and useless, worse even as it is actively negative to the experience...
I just really hope this is a fake screen protector and that the Find X2 stayed with real innovations and useful sensors !

Makes no sense to create a uniquely characterized design and then remove all those unique elements for the follow up when that follow up already has dozens of identical designs in the marketplace.

why would you make a cutout for something thats under the screen ?
a no cutout would have the same protection if not better and cost less to make.
if its needed, then god help us in these turbulent times of stupid design gimmicks made worse.

Oh please no ! Not that stupid hole in the display, I hope this isn't its real screen protector and that the real Find X2 will have a MECHANISED pop up system WITH REAL FACE UNLOCK, not this retarded single-useless-camera-that-can't-do-secure-face-unlock-and-waste-the-display trend.

Superfast wireless charging would be sweet. Being able to fully charge your phone during your travels (most upscale restaurants, bars & cafés have wireless pads on the tables to let you charge your phone).
