Weekly poll results: phones with 90Hz and 120Hz screens will be in high demand this year

09 February 2020
The 90Hz option won out by a narrow margin, but it's clear that there's appetite for 120Hz displays.

Anonymous, 10 Feb 2020Android manufacturers don't push garbage updates which slow... morelike A7 2018 first i bought it i can do spilt screen then after the update i wont work and camera getting bad :(

It isn't that I'm against 90hz120hz/hfr screen, but more on what they can do with the money if they stayed with 60hz screen? If I have unlimited budget, of course I want the highest refresh rate screen (144hz max tho... higher than that would be stupid, but then again, I would be okay with it with unlimited budget). But the reality is that I don't have unlimited budget so I have to be more critical on what feature that I need and what feature that is low on my priority list. I don't know how many of you that are harping 120Hz have ever try a phone with OIS or likes to take pictures, but for me, OIS feature is a much better thing to have. It is the difference between taking an absolutely sharp picture vs slightly blurry picture, especially in an indoor situation. It is the difference between you can have a usable picture if you crop it vs a blurry mess when taking a picture quickly. I know that 120Hz is nice, but right now you can only truly take advantage of it if you have a flagship GPU (or you're only playing simple games). For people like me, the advantage is smoother scrolling in apps/browsing, which is depending how much the feature cost, it might not be something that I'm willing to pay for. Also while Poco X2 (and F1) is a great phone for the price, but not having NFC on it is just... why? I know it is probably useless in India, but why? they are willing to cut cost that much (NFC antennae is not exactly an expensive thing), but put 120Hz screen! yes, I know you can just buy K30, but if they are that concerned with their pricing but then put 120Hz screen, that is just.... stupid. It probably can sell much better if it has 60Hz screen and cut the price even more! They simply do 120Hz purely for the marketing effect, which again, stupid. They even sacrifice the structural integrity of the phone probably to make the budget for that 120Hz screen. Personally I don't mind if X2/K30 is structurally not as good as K20 (since it isn't a flagship), but then you've got that 120Hz screen. They should keep that feature 120Hz to the K30pro and have K30 at an even cheaper price.

The reason is cause by unoptimised android OS. It causes fear in all these amazing tech.

Face scanning can be bypassed. Sonic Fingerprint issues. oLED screen burn-in.

Thats why there's a hold back, as there is too much issues with new techs, as companies try their best to push the tech out without testing.

You can see Apple have no such issues, every known issues are resolved with software updates. And their phones continue to get support for years. Android users do not have such luxury.. when their phone goes out of support in 2 years max, they can only rely on third party roms and such.

Refresh rate is the new megapixel, since you can only have so much ppi in the screen. This will be just a number that marketing uses, bigger is better, but will translate very minimally in real life.

Just like high ppi count, high refresh rate will only give a minute better experience in niche situations, but it will cost battery life. Even only few games support it. People are wanting high refresh rate now because that’s all the youtubers are hyping. In reality, people won’t even realize it as the phone will have to scale the refresh rate down to preserve battery life.

I’ll rather companies focus in bringing IP68 rating down to the mid range or even lower. That will provide better benefit in real life than this battery hogging feature.

Lets pollute the market with only 90-120hz screen and then say there is high demand for them. It's like the 6.3 inch minimum screen as of now. Cant get anything with smaller screen and they say the tablets are in demand and everyone want more bigger TV in there pockets.

Every brand have like 10 models for different specs but on all of them screens are 6-6.9 inch.

Would be nice to see phones without bezel starting on size from 5 inch to 5.8 inch too.

Al these brands should go with at least 1 model with decent specs something SD675 as minimum for a 5-5.5 inch screens with minimal bezel and see how is the demand for it.

I pretty much need to wait a fold phone for another year just to have something that fits in my front pockets.

I sold all my Samsungs because of its poor chipset (Exynos) and bad battery life. I also find the OS laggy at times, even Samsung browser is bugged.

Both my iPhone 11 and X2 Pro just ace through gaming or daily use with no problems.

Sorry but I am NOT going to buy another Samsung. Next phones will be iPhone 13 and a high-spec Chinese OEM (like Mi 11 in 2021). Enjoy the chipset that is prone to throttling.

Each year brings a trend glorified as the Next Big Thing. Half those trends are quickly forgotten. Those that remain are mainly cosmetic trends...

MagicMonkeyBoy, 09 Feb 2020Absolutely amazing these refresh rates... I have a feeling ... moreJust a friendly info, Sharp Aquos Zero 2 has a 120Hz display but there are modifications to it so it appears to display at 240Hz when the actual is 120Hz. I also have heard from others that the battery life is very short.

You should look forward to the nubia Red Magic 5G because it'll sport 144Hz display and it's due to launch soon.

Higher refresh rates are only beneficial in gaming phones and devices that can be used for graphics design (ex. iPad Pro). Daily use phones don't need this. It'll only increase the cost of the device. S20 prices are creeping up because of 120Hz display and I'm staying away from it (this phone only appeals to photographers). I'm also avoiding the Redmi K30 with 120Hz LCD because the prices are similar to the K20, but cheaps out in build quality (phone can snap into two easily). Anyway refresh rates depend on use, not all phones need this feature.

Next 120hz means poco X2 or either samsung S20 series
