Samsung says it can do triple folding phones, but doesn't see a use case yet

The ecosystem needs to be ready before the launch of such device.

Sort by:

21:9 ratio when the display is fold up, 5.8 inch display.
21:27 ratio when the display is unfold, in the tablet vertical mode display will automatically leave a space about 10mm as the bezel on the left and the right frame for grip.
3 layer fold and each layer approximate 3mm thickness, unfold thickness around 10mm.
New films type sealed battery.

SURE it will be triple thick, but the outer fold would add some, so not 27:16 but perhaps say 28.5:16=16:9, and anyway I said ROUGHLY.

I for one would not mind a 6mm tablet folding to a 18mm phone

Not THAT is how math works....

Thus is retarded, and explains why things are going so hopelessly wrong. The use of three fold is to either make a small phone for you pocket that folds out to a more conventional sized and format phone for web use, or to get an larger phone that folds out to a 7-10 inch tablet for tablet use. These Stunts to find a fashionable use for it is a sackable offence, like the squarish form factors, and having video controls on one of the halves. Has it really come to this, holding back real benefit year after year just to produce a half useless fashionable facture with a tighter fold radius for 10x the price. I looked at doing this the decade before last with my own screen technology, and it was doable then, as long as you accepted you were not going to fold the screen in itself into a super slim forn factor. Pretty creepy for the industry to hold things back this long when we really needed a tablet in you pocket, or a iPhone 1/2/3/4 sized device, or smaller, that folded out to.a descent screen size for typing or surfing.

John Samsung can't do that. They have to figure of a way to make each fold 4mm or thinner before making a triple fold. At 6mm at its thinness a triple fold would be a bad idea.

At 3-4mm though it would be an insane idea. 18:9 phones when triple unfolded can become 3:2 (best aspect ratio for tablets) 10.5 inch (best size for tablets) tablet w only 4mm thickness aaand back to 12mm can it turns back into a 6.4 inch phone.

It's insanely useful , the tech is simply not there. Don't lie Samsung.

Tech Guy, 12 Feb 2020Why not Samsung doesn't see a use case? We can triple fold ... moreZ Flip is already 17mm thick when closed; I can't wait for 7 x 6 x 2.5 cm tri-fold bricks to be the norm. Because that's so much better than carrying around a sub-6" slab.

                    Use case?

The biggest use case for Folding Phones was ergonomics, portability, y'know, managing the problem of ever growning phone dimensions. not app ecosystem or services. You people give us that phone on cheap and we'll find a use case ourselves, thank you very much.

While most android manufacturers think out of the box and start new trends, they stick with their silly old design with just iterative upgrades and charge helluva premium for just the build quality and that logo.

I want a triple folding phone with both android (phone) and windows 10 OS (laptop sized screen at least 12 inches screen, max 17 or 19 inches). Otherwise, a big tqblet sized foldable android is just a waste of time, money and resources both for consumers and samsung themselves.

Unlike Apple charging over 1 thousand dollars for what? Have you seen the price of the Mate 30 Pro in the UK?? Whats so ground breaking about those devices?

Dont worry theres plenty of others who are getting the most out of their idiotic fanboys ;)

                              A roughly 16:9 9" tablet folded trice would be roughly a 16:9 5" phone !!!
So it is IDEAL for this, as practically EVERY app works in 16:9...

And apps that works on both tablets and phones, should work out of the box...

For triple fold they can go with Fold and Z approach with main big tablet size display which folds in half and there is an outer display like fold which again folds in half like Z Flip imo it might be the best design
