Peaceboy, 14 Feb 2020That really wont be an issue because at MAX fast charging ... moreIf you use it like a granny maybe. Most phones have 300-500 cycles before losing 25%. Most people I know are heavy phone users, i..e they have replaced their rest of devices. So in one year you lose 25%. But that is not just that, you also lose a lot of SoC capacity as when the phone detects lower voltage (dying battery) the SoC throttles more, so your phone is suddenly slower, the screen develops issues as well due to constant low voltage.

Basically you need to swap battery ever 8-14 months of extremely heavy use (most users). With the new 45w charger, you'd probably need to swap it in 6 months.

Also you don't need to worry for spillage, long before your phone is able to use its ip rating it will most possibly be dead or unusable due to a dying battery.

Last S5 had an IP rating with removable battery. So obviously they sealed so that to harm the consumer (and the environment) , not for IP rating reasons (which is useless anyway because your phone dies too fast and you never happen to need it in the meanwhile)...

Congrats to Samsung, next stop the 1 week phone. I.e. you throw it away in one week.

AnonD-889996, 14 Feb 2020You don't always need to use 45w adapter charging your phone.i presume samsung will still have the feature hays in the s10 that give the option to charge normally instead of fast charging in the battery settings

Last great phone from samsung was Note 4, becouse battery was removable and you could instantly replace it with big epic ZeroLemon battery. After that - just meh... pure business to force ppl buy more and more. Sure you can use ZeroLemon even now with these new phones, but its not pure solution where you simply swap original battery.

After 2 years if you feel 15-20% is lost , samsung battery replacements are really affordable. Usually in the 20-40$ price bracket. So just replace it.

How to make people buy more phones? Seal the only consumable part. Seal it under a ton of hardware and make it almost impossible to swap.

How to make people buy even more phones? Trash said consumable part. Hence the 45w charger. Smart of them as long as people are eating that up.

Anonymous, 14 Feb 2020If you buy phone new you will probably switch it within a y... moreNot really. I have Note9 and most probably will upgrade to Note20 ultra or whatever it will be called. But that phone I will keep at least 3 years because I don't see reasons nowadays to updrage in less than 2-3 years or even more. Better camera, better chipset etc is nothing when you are using phone. You barely can see difference.
Specially I like people who says camera is so much better and putting pictures in instagram where it makes no difference at all compared with midrange phones. Same about chipset - using phones mostly for social networks and "light" games but definetly need latest chipset.

Biggest problem nowadays are batteries. Ok they can last up to 2 days with regular usage but in 3 years they would need to be replaced and this fast charging will only make lifespan shorter. I can just imagine how much Samsung will charge for their flagship battery replacement.

Just like the old days of sealed batteries where you only need "one type of screwdriver" and not multiple types of drivers as well as a heat gun and even worse, liquid solvents.
