Watching 8K video on a 6 inch screen have no sense so supporting 8K video recording makes no sense if you have no device or cinema to watch this.
On a 6 inch screen 2K and 8K will look exactly same.

vrvly, 20 Feb 2020hw remosaic would be great also for ordinary bayer 12mp sen... moreThe term "remosaicing" used by Samsung and OmniVision is equivalent to Sony's "array conversion", it's basically a pixel-swapping signal processing to extract the full resolution from quad CFA sensor, so it will make the image look a lot worse with wormy details and increased noise level. This also means it can't be applied to sensors with the regular Bayer filter array.
Presumably Huawei achieved massive detail improvement through super resolution stacking or different readout method, though as yet it is not disclosed how they exactly did it.

Anonymous, 20 Feb 2020There are many sensors that are made for other purposes lik... moreFunny thing is all the cameras that are installed in cars always have grainy and low quality video about the resolution of VGA / SD which is also limited by the low quality display screens and system on chips they chose to use. Only Tesla's have the nicest and most cleanest Display screens... Why can't I see the area I'm backing up or into in 4K? or at least FHD 1K?

The Last Oracle, 20 Feb 2020OmniVision's sensors seem better on paper than in actual us... moreCan't vouch for their newer sensors, but back when the OV16825 was a thing, I was blown away by its quality during daytime and for indoor shots. I also had the same sensor that HTC used for their rear camera for selfies and the results were very good for the time. I think that it really boils down to software and how aggressive the noise reduction is. Hope more manufacturers give their sensors a try as competition is always good for us consumers.

I'd rather have their 48MP 1/1.3" sensor. huge pixels and 12MP after quad-binning is all I need.

hw remosaic would be great also for ordinary bayer 12mp sensor, we could see sharpness increase like in huawei P30 to mate30, though in that case its sw algorithm. If this remosaic would also support raw output it would be heavenly.

Sony has 64MP Quadbayer 1/1.7".
They may bring a 48MP 1/1.3" to be used by OnePlus.
Omnivsion counterparts. Same size, same resolution.
