It gets fixed in short order from both parties, chrome probably faster due to more support behind it, but lets say for arguments sake let say at the same time. Now all users get pushed the app update for chrome, that they can download immediately and regardless of what ios version they have on their iphone. But Safari users need to wait on an ios version update, that has a staggered roll out and isn't available to older devices. So more users are at risk using Apple's mandatory app and not having the option of setting alternative default.
And before a comment comes back bashing Chrome this is the same regardless of what browser is used the the example whether that be Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Dolphin, Beaker, Opera or anything else.

Assuming that only Apple can provide secure browsers. Only Apple can fix bugs, other app developers can't? Stop justifying this prison system of iOS.
Android not only provides more freedom and functionality but also better security by default.
Third party web browsers are ten times better than stock browsers on Android.
They have developers fixing bugs too.

Whereas 3rd party browsers can just be full of security holes and users might wait for months and months before any of those get fixed.
All in all, it's a big risk to let users change default apps. Say there's a specific virus that uses a vulnerability in a certain 3rd party browser - and users' phones will get infected and Apple will not be able to do anything about it. Even though it's the user's decision to use something else, they will still blame Apple for not making iOS secure enough. While a 3rd party browser falls out of Apple's direct control and all they can do is to remove it from the app store and from users' phones, after the damage has been done.
I somehow trust Apple to know more about their iOS and how 'privacy vs. user freedom' should work, rather than a 3rd party, in a small office somewhere, with tiny budgets and timeframes for testing their apps.

Other browsers don't go through Apple's... moreActually, it's quite "pointless" for browsers as all internet browsers on iOS must use Safari's rendering engine anyway. Worse, they cannot use Safari's faster Javascript engine (they use a slower version). So for iOS, all non-safari browsers are practically inferior by default. Thus this illusion of choice is just that, an illusion. And it's hilarious how the nerds wanting to use other browsers on iOS.

Atleast on Android we can use privacy focused browsers. Tons of varieties of browsers with disabled analytics, ad block, seamless integration, inbuilt VPN, etc which are way better than stock browsers.

This is not needed. Other browsers don't go through Apple's rigorous testing and thus, might pose security threats to the whole OS, user files, pictures, messages, etc. And then people who use third party browsers (not properly secured) will complain that iOS itself is not secure.
Why allow people to do stupid stuff and risk the reputation of 'rock-solid device + rock-solid iOS' when you can just give them the option that is fully tested and is up to Apple's highest standards?

Stock Android by default does more than any iOS device.
Android skins do more than stock Android.
You can make stock Android pull of tricks that can only happen on other Android Oem skins, but You can't make iOS do that.
Even Android from 5 years back is drastically different and more advanced compared to current iOS.

The number of people who ask me to fix their email on their phone, and it's some totally ancient version of Samsung Mail on a 5 year old Samsung A-series with a broken screen. Or Apple Mail on a iPhone 6 with a toasted battery.
A colleague just got a new phone, he's all proud of it. It's a 32GB Samsung S8, and he's paying it off over 3 years. It's better than the S4 he had before.

This issue of default apps are way overblown by nerds/tech bloggers. In reality, regular people don't care. Heck, even on Android, majority of users are using the default browser (be it Samsung, Xiaomi, etc). Only the nerds are making it like a big deal.

Wow iOS users don't have the option to change the default application. I really don't know that but I'm not surprised thuo. At least they are free to use whatever applications Apple wants for them.
