A dedicated camera key can be configured to launch the camera app directly from standby, and to snap once loaded - ex. WinPho.

Why?Because 1 - You've got the whole homescreen to put camera shotcuts on a dedicated button is no easier to press. 2 - a dedicated button doesnt bring it out of standby anyway so youll still need to interact with the touchpad anyway.
3 - the ICS on nexus s and galaxy nexus already has a camera shortcut from lockscreen so why bother
