And if these things helps, they don't need to be new every 2 years, especially a middle to high end phone, it's just to satisfy envy created by this kind of society ruled by commercials and marketing. It's not a sermon, I do that too. But people despising things like this phone are somewhat hypocritical.
This phone has the same reason to exist than Brand clothes that are sold 50times the price they cost, same things for cars. Basically, people can buy clothes for 50€ the whole set, even less. Car can cost less than 5000€ and be used for more than 10 years. Yet people choose to spend hundreds on one piece of clothe, and I don't even talk about cars.
Because in our society, what matter is social recognition. People want to show their success. And thus, practical things become mean to show wealth. Especially cars, clothes and now for more than ten years, phones, that even almost replaced watches in this regards.

We lived millions of years without electronics you know, that's totally useless. As are jewels, so in fact, it's exactly the same thing, especially when the only thing people want from a phone is social recognition (the market would be dead otherwise since new phones are basically the same for 10 years at least).
People do what they want with their money. Your standards don't mean anything to people except yourself. Your value of money isn't even universal, some people could pay bread for this much money they wouldn't even care.
