That is why the hell it makes it more future proof. I don't think they will release more versions of this phone like they did with the awesome 3310. Thet also didn't with the last couple of cheap feature phones which only have 2G as well.

My guess is ... HMD will release 3 versions of this junk, like the 'new' 3310 was.
2G for starters, just for the sake of testing the water & their portfolio,
few months later (my bet around 2-3 months), they would release the 3G ones, while teasing SHEEPS about the possibility of the 4G versions, with KaiOS to make it 'worth to buy'.
HMD is truly the 'old' Nokia, they make cheap junk & sell it at premium price.
when they do make decent goods, they tend to limit incorporating the tech.
Just look at their Communicator; when Windows mobile phone & PDA at that time already supported VGA (480 x 640p), they keep using their 'weird' resolution (176 x 208p, 640 x 200p, and lastly the most renown 'nHD' 360 x 640p).

How the hell are "elderly members of the society" will get "BENEFIT" when almost all carriers in this EARTH have shut down (or going to in the near future) 2G network?
Don't tell me, they are going to use VoIP / VoLTE?
Suddenly becoming adept at using RMS, since SMS are going down too?
Or wait, are they will go as high-tech as using Google Assistant to make calls & sending messages without CARRIERS' service?

Lol, beautiful way to tell that is a crap phone for people that ignore what they are buying, profiting their rented brand and a the traditional old look. Even old people learn how to use the new technology and take profit of it.
Even my mother that don't have a clue of technology wanted a phone with big display to read properly all the messages, etc, with his old eyes. And wanted a phone with a camera that take, at least, enough good photos without have to spend a lot. I bought her a Redmi Note 7 and very happy. Imagine the face of someone buying this phone and watch after take a photo out of optimal conditions or at night that he only can watch noise and blurred things. lol

2G-only is absolutely untenable for a new phone, regardless of cost. Literally, my 2730 Classic from 11 years ago has 3G.

Not every one is a genius like you my dear sir. I'm just a nobody but I do understand that we still need to consider people who are not adept with the ever changing technology.

This phone is DOA. HMD thinks they can bring some classic phones, but maybe a few 100 people will buy it. 2G? Who needs that now?
Reliance Jio is a 4G only operator, and Airtel, Vodafone-Idea, and BSNL are shutting off 3G all over India. That'll be useless too.

a modern feature phone backed with top line specs would be great, something oozing a bit of character but beefed up be awesome. a remodelled curved 6726 was one of best little beasts

2G network in 2020! Really? Even if HMD give it FREE with newly launched phones, hardly anybody will take it. Forget about $50 price tag. HMD Nokia, please stop wasting your valuable resources on phones which nobody will care.
