MS won't give an answer because it is a "no" and they know that will impact on sales until WP8 ships! Same old tactics and having been bitten once I will never buy a Windows phone again.

MS stated that 'All the apps shall be upgraded to WP8'. it doesnot mean the entire o/s though. but it implies they are hinting at backward compatibility of applications. Windows is famous for its backward compatibility and i've NO doubt on that.
That said, MS has plans to widen the WP8's h/w compatibility, specially with multile screen res and different h/w platforms. ARM series is one big leap MS is planning with WP8.

I agree with you on the upgrades of 6.1 - 6.5 which didnt happen for many handsets.

Lets wait for the clear official communication from MS.

One big advantage of WP OS is they can install the OS over any phone no matter what year model or specs..If they run WP7 they can updated to WP8..

Than can't be on Android you will need modded OS for do that BUT aren't official and aren't polished (they will have any ind of weird errors)

So in that area only iOS can compete with WP OS, since iOS can run on almost any devices (iOS 4 can run on 3GS and later phones)

This is something good since you will not need to trash your beloved phone for a new and expensive one just in order to have the most recent OS in town.

Lewis, 05 May 2012The point is, microsoft have said nothing regarding updates... moreYes it does actually. WP8 supports SD cards again, as 6.x did all along! Additonally the WP8 Metro interface will automatically sync settings to your desktop Metro Interface, so they have matching settings. I want both of those so why would I buy a phpne that cannot support those requirements, by virtue of being on 7.x, 3 months before 8 ships with every possibility I will not be able to upgrade. Let's not forget their track record of updates from one O/S to date is non existent. How many phones got 5 to 6 upgrades and how many got 6 to even 6.5 let alone 7. Zero!

Lets not also forget that both Apple and Google can provide updates. So if MS cannot or more likely will not, then I'm sorry but they have just demonstrated a complete lack of dis-regard for ther customers. So why would I purchase any phone based on thier O/S?

I can excuse the anti-Samsung comments here as GSMarena have gone GS3 crazy.

ICS may be the best thing to happen to WP as ICS is resource heavy and at the moment buggy. Who wants to upgrade hardware just to run a new version of Android.
Now on to WP... oh they have done the same :(

Looks like the consumer loses all round.

Anyway it's a non GS3 phone thread so yipeeee
(It is hard to say that the GS3 is not over hyped)

1.nokia is not going to have any threat from samsung in w.p arena.due nokia-m.s deal it will ensure thst nokia remain top of wp.just look at htc titan2 it is a better device than lumia 900 but all spotlight and apraisal is for lumia.
2.nokia ceo stephen elop had told that he'd have liked if samsung was sucessful with windowsphone.if more oem concentrate on wp it will create an intrest in carriers and customers to look for wp.just imagine if android was used just by htc ,nobody should have cared of it just like windows mobile.
2.windows 8 update is being tested in some form for current wp.m.s is mum about update coz testing is still going on also if update comes it will be in q1 or q2 2013.there is another update tango in pipeline.

bongbong, 04 May 2012Same thing as a lot of Androids can't be upgraded to ICS. ... moreAlmost any Android phone released this year will be officially upgradable (if they haven't been already), depending on the hardware. With WP there is every possibility there will be no upgrade path at all, even on a phone that is only a month old when WP8 comes out. Of course custom ROM's can get round that but they invalidate your warranty and are not officially supported.

ICS is almost always rooted to run on older phones.

WP8 can't run on WP7.x is just a matter of time till they crack it.

Who in their right mind is going to buy this when MS will not commit to WP8 updates? Buy it, in say June, with WP7.x and come 3-4 months later a phone that you cannnot update is superceded with WP8 phones. No way I would I buy this given that scenario.
