tkSteveFOX, 23 Mar 2020I'm guessing P30 Pro owners should skip P40. Kirin 980 to ... moreThere is no noticeable difference even for sd 855 and sd 865. No one will notice for single daily tasks or even games. In my opinion there is no point in buying new phone every year. In order to see a big upgrade you need to change after 2-3 years.

Let's stop making false assumptions. Yes emui was bad in the past versions, but right now it is a very reliable ui.

If leaks are true, 20mp and 10x zoom means a lot of fun.

I'm guessing P30 Pro owners should skip P40.
Kirin 980 to 990 difference is almost 0 in real life, photos might be a bit better but nothing drastic.
So, to spend 800 Euros on a new phone that's a tad better won't make many people adopt it.
Hell, people who own P20 Pro shouldn't upgrade as well.
Guessing Mate 40 with the 5nm Kitin 1020 will be the complete package, the Kirin 990 simply isn't a flagship chip for 2020.

Both Kirin and Exynos are the worst when it comes to throttling.
Atleast you get next generation Exynos chipset on the S20 series. Huawei lacks significantly in Single core and gpu performance compared to Exynos 990.

Kirin 990 is even worse than Exynos 990.
SD865 is the chipset of choice for most people now.

                        No GMS no talk.

According to a recent rumor P40 will have custom photography chip probably for Quad Quad Bayer and will have 50X zoom

I really hope they can finaly figure out 4K recording on their flagships :(
It's sad to see droped frames in 4K@60 and even 4K@30.
                            Is it Kirin 990 issue?

                                8MP 1/4" f2.4 80mm

The 240mm f4 seems to capture very little light. I am guessing it may be either a larger sensor or the f-stop will be brighter. Plus can a longer zoom also have enough stabilization, especially since it's not bright enough? The 80mm f2.4 seems great, but I am guessing there are more details of other zoom, which are still to be revealed.

On the back the P40 looks ok to me.

Sd855 costs 53$ so it doesn't make sense that sd865 costs 90$ more.
S20 ultra costs 530$ to be produced.

PartTimePhoner, 23 Mar 2020Why is everyone making the phones this expensive?Well, components get more expensive year after year.

                                        - For example the SD865 + 5G modem cost $90 more than SD855.
                                        - Oled screens with just 1080p cost more than $70, even more if they have cutouts or curved sides. Now imagine QHD and 4K.
                                        - Bigger and newer camera sensors will cost more.
                                        - Kirin 990 seems not to support ddr5, but the ddr5 is 20% more expensive than ddr4x.
                                        - storages ufs3.0 and 3.1
                                        - bigger battery cost more
                                        - Usb C 3.2 is available now, I think even 4.0 exists already.
                                        - faster charging (they spend money to develop and test)
                                        - new UI features (require money )
                                        - bigger phones have bigger screens and more components to make the body = more expensive

If you want to make a "flagship" that can be sold for less than $600, you need to do many cuts. Like using older Gorilla Glass (4 or 5) or glass from cheaper supplier, put slower usb 2.1 instead of 3.1/3.2, use storage/ram from cheapest supplier (at risk of having reading/writing speeds slower than Toshiba/Samsung counterparts), no IP rating (hardware and certification), no stereo speakers, not to invest in more tests to reduce SAR levels.
