Leak shows the Honor 30 camera will match the Galaxy S20 Ultra sensor size

24 March 2020
But with larger pixels, which will make night shot comparisons quite interesting. This sensor is also larger than the one in the Oppo Find X2 Pro.

I'm still waiting for any smartphone OEM to utilize OmniVision's OV48C sensor. It's a much better module compared to the standard Sony and Samsung's 48MP with much bigger sensor and larger native micron pixel count.

          Anonymous, 25 Mar 2020Hmm, I thought a 1" sensor does not have a 1" diagonal.1" has 15,86mm.
          For example HM1/HMX have 12mm.

If this is a real leak, this pretty much spoils what P40 series will have for their main cameras.. A RYYB 50MP sensor with 1.2µm pixel pitch. I guess it won't be much larger than S20 Ultra's sensor, sigh. I expected it to be a bit more than that tbh.

AnonD-879849, 25 Mar 2020Wait, it does? Also this is where post-processing comes into playExcessive post processing produces unnatural colour. Pixel phone doesn’t use pixel binning..so that is why pixel phones produce accurate colour every in shadow area of an image

The image constitutes false marketing because the sensor is not as large as what they claim.

Anonymous, 25 Mar 2020Hmm, I thought a 1" sensor does not have a 1" diagonal.True. 1" type, 1/2.55" type, etc are not the real diagonals. These are just names. The relationship isn't even completely linear. I nearly never use the terms 1" type , 1/2.55" type , etc because it's nonsense to use names instead of the real physical size. Rather talk about 115mm², 24mm² sensors.
It's as if people would think that the word night has something to do with N8 = N*8 . No, the word night has nothing to do with eight. And 1" type sensors have nothing in common with sensors that really have a 1" diagonal. That's why they are called 1" TYPE sensors and not 1" sensors. The TYPE is called 1", but it's not the size of the diagonal. It's just a name.

                              no amoled = no go.

AnonD-914443, 24 Mar 2020I don’t believe a 0.8 microns pixel is enough to capture pr... moreLol, basically, quad Bayers are much better in terms of exposure. Your mindset "believes" on a scale of only one pixel comparison but in fact, a Quad bayer can still match the pixel size when they're combined into one with the capability to sample a theoretical 3 to 4 exposure levels on one shot on each and every color without stacking. If you have only a single BIG pixel, there's no way for the sensor to sample 3 exposure per color on one shot without stacking. Image stacking has a penalty, ghosting.

Your comparison is basically limited to a Quad Bayer sensor that takes photos at full resolution all the time which isn't always the case.

Shanti Dope, 25 Mar 2020What most of you forget is that you also need a well-design... moreActually not even glass.
I do not know if LG still uses glass lenses for V series, but all other phones have plastic.
                                      Cheaper and lighter.

When you see 6P, means 6 elements of plastic.

What most of you forget is that you also need a well-designed lens that could resolve as much detail as the sensor pixel count could suggest.
Xperia 1, for instance, has some of the best detail preservation capabilities despite its sensor not being the highest in class at just 12MP.
Its ultra wide lens is some of the sharpest around even with just 12MP, which goes to say how well they engineered the hardware.

What's the point of having 108MP and all that when the glass in front of it is a dirty mess?
