Honor 30 leaks points to P40-like camera, including a similar 50MP main sensor

27 March 2020
It will be a Sony IMX7xx sensor with pixel binning and Octa Pixel AF, but not quite the same chip as the P40 phones use.

The presence of green pixels ensures faithful colour representation and makes WB adjustment a lot easier, but high light sensitivity is maintained because white pixels can gather 3 times more light than other pixels with R/G/B filters on top of them. It suffers from reduced spatial resolution and might need entirely different algorithms for demosaicing, but these could be easily overcome or at least mitigated if they used the super res image processing like they do on Mate 30 Pro/P40 Pro and increased the effective sensor resolution to, let's say, 16 or 18MP, up from current 12.5MP (or 9.1MP after cropping).

50MP Sony sensor? Now this is interesting, definitely would love to see a main camera comparison between the Honor 30 and any P40 variants.

Nick Tagataka, 28 Mar 2020Please don't crop in the sensor and stick to the real 27mm ... moreYup, the cropped sensor pretty evident when pixel peep (details washed-out, even my smaller sensor Mate 20 looks sharper in Studio Setup). Its not destroying the whole image quality, just not sharp when pixel peep. Mate 30 Pro main sensor got the best lens as of now.

With normal Quad Bayer 27mm at 64mp, remains sensor size as P40, at f1.7, it should be better. And I think its time to got rid off that RYYB as the sensor is big now, use the old RGB should achieve accurate white balance (can keep RYYB on telephoto, as aperture is slow on that). I mean I dont know what type of photography style for in extremely low lights situation, other than bragging rights. At least for me lol.

Honor's attachment to IPS screen is due to the demand of the market for budget-flagships in that price-segment ($300-$550). It is not due to the preference of its designers or Honor's high management team.

Honor flagship series always use IPS for its higher-priced members, and AMOLED is only offered for lower-priced members.

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2020Hopefully it'll have ips lcdKnowing Honor it will probably have it

                OIS in main camera?

Please don't crop in the sensor and stick to the real 27mm equiv. lens this time around..
Huawei cheaped out on lens of P40 Pro, it's really infuriating to see how its UWA lens somehow has a superiour optical quality than its main lens even though the former should've been a lot harder to design due to stronger distortion and lens shading. Hopefully this or Mate 40 Pro will bring higher quality lens to the table, but I doubt if they will make significant change in this aspect.

Honor series always offers great bang for buck products.
Most of the time they offer the similar specs as the P/Mate series but at half the price.
Considering the pricing of the P40 series, most ppl might save money and go for this one.

If it outperform P40, I will laugh, P40 stills are cropped after all.

Honor flagships are offering premium hardware for the budget-conscious users. Aside from IP certification, i don't see this lacking any essential feature. Good stuff!
