A phone without google services is not practical at all, it's not about YouTube or even google maps, many apps are built around google services, uber, netflix... Most people have their data, contacts, whatsapp history... linked to their google account, and then subscriptions and purchases made in the play store, it's more complicated then using the browser version of youtube or downloading a netflix apk.

It's a very sad situation but Huawei is not exactly innocent here - they could choose to lower their ridiculous prices abroad. That might make their non-gms phones easier to swallow for mainstream buyers.. As it is now their potential buyers are composed almost entirely of enthusiasts..

I checked out the App gallery and it actually looks better than the Amazon store. It still needs a lot of work though to rival the Playstore. I wish them a lot of luck. If they make it super easy to port GMS apps over to HMS, then hopefully more developers to make their apps available in their store.

Even with our without GMS, I'm still leaving Huawei because of their cheap-looking, crappy UI! I'm sick of this ugly UI!

Josh, 31 Mar 2020Rip. mostly developers are in android and ios hearts you kn... moreAndroid cant be damaged by this. It's free and open source. It's Google's Android that won't work without Google Services. So Huawei needs to do something by developing their own services and integrate it with their own OS, which i believe will be an Android AOSP. Windows has been proven failed because most developer doesnt want another time to build new apps that has fewer potential market.
But if Huawei survives this, it's gonna be a huge success for them.

Anonymous, 31 Mar 2020I dont understand why people worry about google service? i... moreNone of the Google Apps are important, rather it's the 3rd-party apps (such as Netflix, Amazon, banking apps, many mobile games, etc.) that need GMS to run. Without GMS those apps won't run properly, even if GMS was sideloaded.

Finally they admitted. They should tell truth in the first place, maybe people show some sympathy and support the brand. Instead with their ignorance attitude, our business doing fine without gps. It keep growing.

MagicMonkeyBoy, 31 Mar 2020Don't worry. I like Google. But HMS. And Huawei phones have... moreIn Europe, if you look at Chinese OEMs only, Xiaomi sells a lot more smartphones under Mi and Redmi branding (thats why Xiaomi is 3-th now) than Huawei/Honor, because it cheaper, because of MIUI, choice of phones in all price ranges, and that's a case, since last year. People who wants phone without Play Store (and eeesential apps, for everyone) in 2020, are those who wants Lumias with similar app choices back in 2015-2016, and we all know how that turn out.
