Hell, they would even sell the selfie camera & bluetooth module separately, when customers like you say its occupying space & more performance is needed...

And how is S10 insignificant question for you, we have a last year's flagship doing everything while being waterproof and having 3.5 jack with awesome audio quality as well, all in 157 grams.... Isn't it the very answer to your basic question?

Audio jack damaged? I don't think so. It didn't get damaged even in a $200 Redmi Note 4 after 3.5 years of usage. This is my personal observation, in my home.
The 2 hole lightning cable design seems not so feasible, but if it is, go ahead by all means...

And just using adjectives like "Bad" won't make it bad actually, my first phone with 3.5mm jack was the legendary Nokia N91 (13 years back) and since then, I never got another phone without the jack... So, we know what we're talking about it.
Please try to understand our perspective.

Elthan John , 03 Apr 2020Why Apple Companies first remove audio jack is because they... moreElthan STOP.

Request not to spread any more misinformation.

Apple intentionally stopped including analogue 3.5 mm audio jacks on their devices, as they found a way to earn more revenue by selling the 3.5 mm audio adapter dongles and headphones. May I put this to light that Apple was the first manufacturer which started including the 3.5 mm audio jacks on their iPhones a decade back and claimed they are following a revenue free universal standard where you plug in ANY headphone.

Apple has a closed loop eco-system, they earn from every third party that manufactures accessory for their proprietary products. And this includes any kind of adapters to their devices having proprietary ports. You have to understand the bigger picture. Apple, Samsung or for the name any manufacturer is here to do business. They will take every measure possible to earn more revenue from their customer.

Any audio enthusiast or an audiophile will laugh if anybody says 3.5 mm audio jack is obsolete. Because they understand audio and seen $10,000 audio equipment that outputs through the 3.5 mm or quarter inch audio jacks to connect to $5000 over the ear audiophile grade open back headphones. Audio is analogue, because human ears are analogue.

The question you may very well ask, why other manufactures are following the same trend? Well because they now understand there is a new scope to earn more revenue and they are following this trend my making their own branded dongles and stuff. For example Meizu now have their own audio dongle which you now need to buy for their flagships like Meizu 16s or Meizu 16s Pro. They are all forcing the customer and earning more revenue. A valid and very effective business model.

The next question is, why all these manufacturers except Apple are not doing this for their mid range devices? Well bcoz removing the 3.5 mm audio jack on their mid-range devices will turn off their specific group of "cash cow" customers who are very price sensitive and not willing to pay an extra $20 for a cheap audio dongle. These customers have 50 other options to buy a phone with 3.5 mm audio jack and they will rather choose those. This very well cements the fact that till today their is a HUGE demand for 3.5 mm audio jack. Hence all manufactures are currently targeting to fool the deep pocket buyers who are ready to pay $1000 for their flagship phone and won't not mind shelling $50 more for the dongle or pay $100 for each of the low quality headphones that snugs with their own branded accessories. Or in case of Apple, demand money to the manufacturer of such headphone & dongles.

In the end it's all about doing business.

The main thing you mean, is that the flagship audio jack is not heavy. That's true, but the size of the flagship consumes a lot of space in the device, and the size of the damn hole is so deep that it sacrifices room in the device. You will use this audio jack to poke and pull it over and over again. And more easily damaged. Rather than placing an audio jack flagship, it is better to place another flagship. And you can use a two-hole lightening cable, the audio jack and usb type c. It can also be used for headphone jack and charging at the same time. That's why the first Apple Company (IPhone) sacrificed audio jack and added TapticEngine and stereo speakers. And then another company, imitating the way.
Why Apple Companies remove audio jack, because they know it's bad. Because the Apple company is an expert engineer, that's why. And they know, lightening cable is the latest flagship, and more cost-effective, than the damn hole audio jack flagship on the phone.

And the RAM/ Storage, etc. don't even matter. Only their engineering goes deeper and smaller as they expand. Tell me, how much is the weight difference between a 1GB MicroSD Card and a 512GB one?

And honestly, Galaxy S10 is a living example you can still have anything & everything in 157 grams, with a 6 inch display (and stereo speakers).
Can anyone challenge a 3.5mm jack now, citing space and weight and waterproofing?

And the question you answer me is, mobile phones now have bigger screens and need bigger batteries. The main cause is larger batteries exceeding 4000mh, 5000m and more, and in addition, larger ram cpu. That's what makes the phone heavier.
As for the Samsung Galaxy 7, the battery is 3600mh, the screen is only 5.5 inches and the ram is only 4gb. And devices and flagships aren't as big and powerful as today's smartphones. That's why it's only 157 grams.
At least high quality stereo speakers and dual speakers are important to me. No stereo speaker, I don't buy.

What caused such a change that every device is touching 200 grams of weight, whereas it was 150gms for an equipped, water resistant and 3.5mm jack flagship like Galaxy S7?
All we get is a extra speed, and no new feature at all, maybe 1 or two extra cameras, but still... ?

Probably, you'll understand in the long term, that a lot is going on inside the devices that's fulfilling hidden agendas, and 3.5mm is not even a part of the problem...

Anonymous, 01 Apr 2020the one who comments on the headphone jack is the uneducate... moreActually, we should understand the difference clearly.

You see, if your mobile phone with 3.5mm jack has a high quality $100 DAC, its like you have the best hardware that exists for every headphone you own + you have the choice of making it better with USB-C/ Lightning Earphones in the far future... The choice is there!!

If your phone doesn't have a 3.5mm, you're totally dependant on the DAC supplied by the USB head/earphone, which means you're spending lot of unnecessary money when you buy multiple USB headphones. And if you use adaptor, a $20 adaptor isn't going to give good quality.
So, you MIGHT get quality, but you're spending a lot more cash for it... And Bluetooths such at quality, we all know.

Galaxy S7 had a small size & weight with waterproofing and 3.5mm jack, so no excuse exists for the midrange.
So, 3.5mm is not outdated. Its just industry's way of saying "pay more" and some (very) innocent minds consider it a trend... That's why the comment section is on war.

Think about it:- Such a war didn't exist, when TFT was called outdated in front of AMOLED, or when UFS 2.1 was gone, in front of UFS 3.0... There must be a reason, right?

This audio jack is a device that is wasting space on smartphones. So they remove the audio jack to leave plenty of room for good flagships and devices. You can use lightening cable, either usb type c to audio jack and the same sound quality as audio jack on phones, because it functions as a connection to the same audio chip. This design is better and durable. I am know because I am engineer.
