Weekly poll: the Nokia 8.3 5G marks many firsts for HMD, but is the price too ambitious?

05 April 2020
The 8.3 is the first Nokia with 5G connectivity and also the first with a 64MP camera. But €600 sounds a bit steep.

Anonymous, 05 Apr 2020This phones aren't from Nokia. Are from HMD and manufacture... moreBecause you're always into Phone Specifications. You're referring to Chipsets, RAMs and all.

But you didn't consider the Raw Materials, Build Quality, Quality Control Tests and also the Android One Program that's why HMD-NOKIA Phones are more expensive.

This is the true Tech-Savvy person. Always considering beyond limits not Specifications always on mind. I hope you get it 😊

A $300 phone in $600 phone clothing. "ZEISS optics" mean nothing in terms of smartphone camera performance. It's clever marketing disguised as meaningful hardware. This is essentially the same camera array as on my $200 Redmi Note 8 Pro. Software processing matters, and I've seen zero evidence that HMD has anything good up their sleeve in that dept. Where are they in DXOMark rankings?

Macro could also be useful but without OIS & that low resolution makes it useless. And depth is worse of all these setup. Even dedicated b&w sensor makes sense & is much better option than depth.

Anonymous, 05 Apr 2020Oh yes. A company hiding its identity behind a rented brand... moreHow can you say that without using any of their devices? HMD is made of previous nokia employees. Are you so busy in your life to check in linkedin?
Since they have restarted their business and to completely focus on 5G the main company Nokia is still working on Networks and the mobile division which is given to Microsoft they formed again with a name HMD Global Oy(A finnish company) which CEO of nokia announced that back in 2016 that they are coming again like a Google and Nexus stratergy.
I personally have Nokia 6 2017 (with me) i first thought Nokia is giving sd430 which was old at that time and may be it will lag later but after using it still now it looks like a new one it have all the same build quality and the latest software Android 9 (before android 10) with the support of getting all the latest apps which supports android 9 even for example a app like Google Camera 7 which works on Android 9 it worked on my Old phone.
Frankly speaking even my phone is with sd430 still my phone is working smooth even on Android 9 thats all experience you need as a consumer is just because my phone is bloatware free which consumes battery and CPU to make your phone slow.
I also have Nokia 7 plus, Nokia 2 and Nokia 6.1 with my family members they all are happy.

                      HMD is not Nokia.

The only real Nokia was the one that existed before the Microsoft's purchase and that Nokia was the best brand.

So you like the ugly naming Plus, Pro, Pro Max, Pro Max Ultra / Ultra Pro Max
LOL How do you get the latest from this naming?
Even software os like Android or any OS has 8, 8.1, 9, 10 so you can easily understand which is the latest one.
Actually simple is better and i like this naming with versions.

A company hiding its identity behind a rented brand, making unaccomplished software promises and asking for more than double of the real value of their hardware must be a very transparent and honest one. The typical business behind the wall... And still some people are as blind to believe that they are the old Nokia, if not trying to fool others to make believe it...

The price is fine. I'd buy a Nokia over a Huawei any day.

Google Services and a company's transparency and honesty are important to me.

Phones getting so huge these days, the day is not far when companies can just rebrand a television as some Note 20 Plus Mega Max Pro and sell it as a phone. This is getting way out of 'hand'

600 dollars for a mid-range soc and lcd screen ? absolute no, see you at the 300-400 dollars range (for the sake of the camera setup and 5g).

Can't comment on the price, but surely not going to buy it solely because of its sheer gigantic size. Phones these days SMH

I can't for the life of me understand what HMD is thinking. They haven't released a decent flagship-grade smartphone since Nokia 8 in late 2017. All of their phones are overpriced and underperforming in just about every metric available. Their attempt at staying relevant is commendable, but their execution is laughable.
