Anonymous, 07 Apr 2020The Xcover Pro 2020 at half the price of this one exists. ... morePro is not same as FieldPro. FieldPro is specially designed for First Responders community for tough conditions with in built MCPTT solution which is not so for Pro.

Luxor, 07 Apr 2020Yes, it cost that much. Because this is a niche market only... moreIt is not made only for AT&T, as it is also being introduced in Germany, in the UK Samsung at least lists the model number on its site, etc. The Wi-Fi Alliance certification page lists six different variants for different continents/markets, so it looks like it is intended for a global release.

Still, sales numbers will be lower than a mass-market consumer device, ruggedization adds to the cost as well, and the manufacturers of such devices usually claim that they do a lot of extra-thorough testing. And I suspect to some degree it is also because they can get away with this price in the intended market - traditional agency suppliers like Motorola have worked decades on conditioning their customers into believing that gear like this must be expensive indeed. :P

The FieldPro's price is in line with the rest of that market, and frankly at this point I would put more trust into Samsung's phone building skills than into the remainders of Motorola, or whatever OEM actually builds their devices.

This has to just be a really unfunny joke. Please tell me it's just a really unfunny joke.

This phone is a joke. 4gb ram,64gb internal memory, android pie, 1080p video recording and outdated processor for 1100 dollars. The X cover Pro has similar features for less than half the price.

NotCory, 07 Apr 2020Does the ruggedized look and extra resistance cost that muc... moreYes, it cost that much. Because this is a niche market only made for the AT&T carrier. You can't buy this anywhere else. Xcover series never sold globally. Purely made for one market only. It's economically not efficient to release such thing but it happened anyway. So, the price is to be expected when made in such low quantity. Ignoring the price the rest is pretty good compare to other Xcover series they had released.

Plus, this phone was announced in 2019, so you can forgive the specs. It was made based on Galaxy S9. The chipset may be old but it is a 10nm chipset. Quite capable. The latest chipset from 2020 is 7nm type btw. They even manage to put QHD on this tiny 5inch screen. And a big battery at 4500mah. Even your average 6-7inch phone in 2020 barely touch the 5000mah mark. Also, it runs android pie out of the box not Oreo. Android 10 update coming soon.

Luxor, 07 Apr 2020Android pie actually. Read the article dude. Also, Android ... moreI mention that because the spec sheet at the time of this writing mentions Android 8.0.

Does the ruggedized look and extra resistance cost that much? I mean, the Note10 Lite costs half of this and it has more stuff inside (minus the "protection", of course).

Is its price reasonable? It's not a high-end device and previous rugged phones by samsung were cheaper which was proper regarding their specs and in addition people buy less mobiles in general which companies clearly show. Shouldn't 50% of its initial price be more than enough? It'll get cheaper but maybe 20-30% depending on country which can't help. And then samsung could decide this type of phones is no longer necessary. Even if it is for specialists and so on.
