I am not a console guy, but here is my opinion on this :
The design colors is really interesting, the clear white look really premium, combiner with black it also look modern and the blue light give a beautiful touch, but I am not a fan of how the color pattern are implemented, while the idea could look really amazing, in this form it look like a cheap Chinese rip off of the XBox controller rather than its own thing.
The "Dragon Ball Z Monochrome PS4" or "White Marble PS4 Controller Skin" black and white patterns look way better.
As for the shape, I understand, they wanted to depart from the original ergonomic to a better one, the Xbox controller is popular for its really good ergonomic, they simply got more ergonomic too and there isn't infinite amount of shapes you can take for that...
But it truly is a radical change and it lose the original design identity, hard to tell if this is a good thing before taking the controller in hand though.
Talking of the Xbox controller, I have a Microsoft Xbox 2 controller for my PC, and I always did found it quite awkward to handle with the two index resting on the LB and RB triggers and majors holding the rest of the controller (but no problems with 4 fingers on the 4 triggers), is it me or does anyone else feel the same ?
And an integrated microphone ? No thanks, I don't want yet another privacy invading thing at home, so even if I did liked it, I would not buy a PC compatible PS5 controller, except for a microphone-less version.

I hope there is a total black option because with white finish, the controller gets yellowed in time like my old Xbox 360 pad. Also kind don't like the mono chromatic choice of the symbols, PS controllers always had those colours and can be important to games where you need to tap the buttons rapidly in succession like the karaoke and dancing parts of Yakuza games or QTS events like Shenmue 3.

No, it doesn't have to look like the Xbox controller, it's up to them. I was paying it a compliment. I thought the old PS controllers were dated and didn't feel comfortable to me. The light thing is one thing I'm not keen on. As for batteries, I bought a play and charge kit and the life and charge times are exceptional. The controller and charge kit was purchased for less than a PS4 controller, at rrp, so I'm ok with that. My kids have some cheaper ones that came with a dock, as the little devils break usb connectors so easily.

you can be any hardcore fanboy, but XBox controller is the best controller ever!!! and the next is steam controller.

Looks nicer than the old one. Not as nice as the Xbox controller, but a marked improvement. Shame they went for recargable internal battery, pretty anti consumer approach.

This is the fusion of Dualshock 4 + latest Xbox controller 😁
