watermelon, 21 May 2020pay them money your phone will score betterOr y'know, make your phone not have a garbage array of cameras. Have you even seen the camera samples. And have you compared them with other phones? Because they're actual garbage. The detail is only competition for the 12MP sensor equipped garbage iPhone 11. There are good 64MP sensors, and there are bad ones. There are good SoCs and there are bad ones. This took a bad 64MP and bundled it with a bad SoC. That's why the results are terrible. This is clear when you look at phones like the Redmi Note 8 Pro, which bundled a bad 64MP sensor with a better SoC. And the S20+ which bundled a good 64MP sensor with a good SoC. Notice how the scores progressively get higher on those phones, like you'd expect. That's because DXOMark isn't just taking bribes. They have over a decade of experience with this stuff, (with actual full frame cameras, not just phone cameras) I don't see why you'd suspect them of pulling stuff that. They've only made 1 major mistake. That was their switch to 4K video samples instead of 1080p on what I believe was the Mi 9 if my memory serves me right. Which was released before the other 3 phones I mentioned before.

I didn't buy it for that reason and didn't expect much of it but the photo quality is underwhelming.
However, I tried a gcam port and the results were decent/quite good, so there's hope for software improvements.
That said, if you value photo over anything else, I don't think it will ever be satisfying.

Simply dxomark's guys did not test it very well. Lately they judge very quickly the midrangers .. For example the did not test with 64mpx mode (4: 3H). Samsung A71 takes great 64mpx images, you have to switch to 4: 3H photo mode and the photos are significantly improved, even the zoom cropping is better. Not even the macro cam is tested for a lot of devices. Lately dxomark is wasting too much energy in audio reviews that have little to do with the sense of photography site and these are the results: partial photo reviews that don't give the real idea of camera''s potential. This is a nonsense because if I buy a phone with feature like 64mpx and I'm paying for that feature, you have to test it to review the real potential of the camera and judge it also for that. Reviewing with the "point and shoot" mode it's not enough. I know dxomark is losing credibility.

Now I've read both reviews (for A50 and A71) and still disagree on their score. Even if taking just the "Photo" score and even each category (e.g. Exposure, Color, etc.) apart.

Come on, the whole article is there, the points were spread on all available categories and each phone have their own best and worst-cases in terms of camera performance. DXO is as specific of a test as much as possible but most people that tell that DXO is paid of have failed in evaluating were mostly the ones that doesn't bother to read the whole article and test results, are you one of those?

                  * Edit - Why would anyone buy an old flagship phone if camera technology moves forward and a newer midrange phone now sports the previously 'cutting edge' flagship phone camera sensor of yesteryears or actually have an improved, better, camera sensor because technology gets more advanced cheaper with time? If you tell me that you stick with the older flasgship phone because of other features, I may understand you, but P30 and Oneplus 7? The former no longer has Google software updates and the latter is devoid of micro sd card slot and headphone jack. What makes both appealing? The bragging rights to a 'flagship' title? I might as well buy a very old iPhone if all I'm concerned about is bragging that its a 'flagship' phone, never mind if its now very cheap and old.

They don't always bring dramatic improvements in photography (in some ways [100% crops] they fare worse) but to say in general 'they are WORTHLESS in midrange phones' when the midrange phones are JUST COPYING the trend STARTED by older flagship phones like your old P30 phone and Oneplus 7 phone, is essentially saying the SAME thing: that high megapixel cameras in your old P30 phone and Oneplus 7 phone are worthless. What makes you think they are any different? Older camera sensors used in older flagship phones become cheaper with newer sensors available and most of them end up in midrange phones. In fact, a few midrange phones can even have newer, better camera sensors than old flagship phones.

Why would anyone buy an old flagship phone if camera technology moves forward

For the price it offers better camera output when compared to other mid-rangers. Yes being a Samsung phone it is little expensive than those but cameras in mid-range are pretty much worthless considering that mid-range was doing fine before these high-megapixels sensors started to pop in. Either you spend a little more and go with P30/OnePlus 7 or stick with this result.

Anonymous, 13 Apr 2020*Overpriced higher...Samsung A71 is $100 more expensive than Samsung A51. If you don't consider the bigger screen, bigger battery, better camera, 25watts superfast charging and snapdragon 730G processor of the A71 as worth it, (A71 is $100 more than the A51), then buy the A51.

Now if you don't like Samsung as a brand, which is loud and clear from your previous posts (you qouted: "both are crap for its prices"), then certainly, you can get another phone with better camera from other brands for less.

HOWEVER, (it's a BIG however), I seriously doubt if your cheaper non-Samsung phone has both triple slots (2 SIM slots + 1 dedicated micro sd slot) AND Widevine L1 certification at the same time (important for those who like watching Netflix movies on phone or screen shared on a big screen tv, also for those who take 4K videos regularly and those who store lots of media - music, movies, high resolution photos and other files in their phones while needing to use two SIM cards always) WHILE AT THE SAME TIME, having the 3.5mm headphone jack (I don't want hours of bluetooth exposure daily on my brain from music listening), an FM radio (nothing quite like your local radio station no data needed), big 4500mAh battery or larger, big 6.7" high resolution screen, or larger, etc.

I'll let you know what the etc. are that the A71 has that your non-Samsung phone doesn't have or is incapable of, if you just tell me what specific non-Samsung phone model that you have (exact model please) that you think REALLY is BETTER in EVERYTHING than the A71 including the price.

Because of your trust in overhyped but worthless DxOMark camera scores, you're making a purchasing decision favoring a less capable phone over a more capable one. And we're not talking about camera performance alone which gsmarena's photo compare tool clearly show the A71camera is superior to Samsung's lower priced A50 & A51 offerings. And that's just on the camera performance alone. When you consider other aspects - bigger screen size, bigger battery, 25 watts superfast charging and 8nm snapdragon 730G processor, you'll see why the A71 is priced much higher than the A50 or A51.

I believe my own eyes (gsmarena photo compare tool), than this bogus article. How can you rank phones by points given if you dont have a standard to look at in the first place. Maybe if DxOMark would set a high-end DSLR for the standard, then we could compare the phones results to that. This way it's so subjective, I mean according to their scores, the Galaxy A50 is performing better overall than the A71?? This is a fat joke, how can these two be even comparable?

DroidBoye, 12 Apr 2020If you don't get my point then there's no way you can even ... moreThen what's the use of the common score board if a worse performing phone gets more overall points?
It makes it totally irrelevant and confusing for people that read the news "A71 got lower dxomark score than A50 and A9".
