Whilst I recognise your point from a hygiene perspective regarding a "silver dust finish", it really isn't necessary. For that matter nor should UV light or 70%+ propan-1-ol wipes be used (as you correctly point out).

The 70% propan-1-ol wipes (as recommended by Apple in light of SARS-COV-2, at support.apple.com/en-us/HT204172 ) , over prolonged usage will degrade the protective oleophobic layer against sebum-laddened fingerprints (natural protective oils within our skin).

In strict lab conditions, UV light sanitising boxes have been shown not to be an assured way of killing all microbes on a phone's surface. Hence such UV light devices give a false sense of total sanitisation. In addition, UV light has a bleaching effect, and with repeated usage over time, discolouration of the outer shell of the phone shall occur.

For phones that do not have an ingress protection of greater or equal to IPx7, it is highly recommended that using basic ordinary liquid soap (i.e., non-bacterial) and a micro-fibre cloth to wipe the phone's surfaces, are the most effective and non-destructive way to sanitise one's phone.

Liquid soap and micro-fibre cloth has been proven by a microbiologist at UCL in London to be the most effective, and you may view the footage at:

      www.BBC.co.uk/news/av/technology-51863924/coronavirus-how-to-clean-your-smartphone-safely

For phones that have been certified with a greater or equal to IPx7, one can simply wash one's phone with soap, whilst one washes one's hands.

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, IMHO, has made it a necessity to have all phones rated with an IP of at least IPx7, and should no longer be considered a luxury.

I think this year's iPhone and all mobiles are going to take a hit. Lower sales then usual, what's the point of phones when you are stuck at home?

But laptops, MacBooks will see a rise in sales. Same with iPads, tablets.

I have been using both IOS and Android, the latter is much exciting due to its customisable software ever. Now, on the other hand, if that ugly notch is essential as it was introduced by Apple, why reduced its size now? Or they are slowly realising how ugly it is if not the fruit of a lazy engineering design? My last iPhone is 7+ and never upgraded since due to that ugly NOTCH!

Though some people prefer a minimalist less complex OS. Been using an andorid since the start. started trying to use iphone since iphone x and now iphone xr and im happy with it. simple and straightforward OS plus 5 years of update is a plus compare to 2 years max update support youll get with android.

Ahh, what do we have here ? A new fetish I see. One who takes great pleasure to "rime" (sic) their iPhone. I guess the notch makes the rimmimg all the more pleasurable.

It'll look like a big iPhone 5, which is not a bad thing. My favourite iPhone design was the 5.

Pity one can't hide the grotesque notch with a case.

Seems it's only apple that knows how to design a top notch, portable, premium device in the business. Kudos but way too expensive.

I like the design a lot. Always thought the iPhone 5 was one of the best designs ever.

Apple will sell heaps of these.

Within the subsections there are a mix of images, some having dark backgrounds, some not. Even among the darker ones most are not pure black. Even the icons to move between models clearly show the notch. Perhaps you should see for yourself, Watson.

I was thinking of trying Apple this time because I got tired of big phones, but the horrendous camera bump and the notch are a no go for me. It seems to me I'll need to wait til the Xperia 5ii
