The primary selling point is the superb display. The OnePlus management has placed the bet on its display to sell their phones. They has put a lot of effort into developing this high quality display, probably involving thousands of engineer hours. Such effort is not always visible to average users. If you are really into the high refresh rate smartphone display, as enthusiastic as the OnePlus management, then the price is justified. Otherwise you may feel hard to convince yourself to upgrade. It is not that difficult to develop a similar sentiment toward Samsung S20 series or Apple iPhones. If you are in US, you don't have that much of a choice. If you are in Europe, you do have more options.

Seen some really nasty eis in videos. And some over exposing and conversely some shadow crushing in stills. I've been spoilt by Pixel. That said, OnePlus ticked all my other boxes.

OnePlus's strategy is clear: if you absolutely insist on going with this company's products, buy an older model two or even three generations behind and STILL get updates. It's a more consistent support than Samsung but the same logic as any other manufacturer that is comfortable with $100 to $150 price jumps.

Anonymous, 14 Apr 2020I wish OnePlus would release a midrange phone. They will but it'll be only 50 dollars cheaper than the OnePlus 8, so it'll be as bad and as overpriced as the vanilla 8. The only one that can be interesting if you don't mind its flaws and are a OnePlus fan is the 8 Pro, but at that price i prefer a lot of other phones above OnePlus and more with local warranty and local repair services, etc. And also with more features and better cameras.

glad i bought the lg v60 and didnt wait for this.
1k for the pro model??? lol
i had to ditch my 7 pro , even though it was a great phone, because they have terrible gps in their phones and i use gps all the time.
and now their pro version is even more expensive than the v60 dual screen which t-mobile have a bogo offer on it, INSANE

i'm bit disappointed that the 8gb ram versions don't have 256gb storage since Oneplus doesn't support SD card, so if you need more storage you must buy the highly expensive phone with more unneeded ram . aside from that Oneplus is expected to be the first phone phone company in 2020.

These phones seem a few years old.
Don't they pay designers anymore.
Plus they should have improved the camera options. Among other things.

Anonymous, 14 Apr 2020No, because with the actual base, the only thing that they ... moreThat is true.
Probably in 2021, Oppo moves to 10x periscope like Huawei has.
Then OP9 Pro earns 5x periscope and ToF.
I suppose 8T replaces macro for 2x zoom, while 8T Pro replaces depth/colour for ToF and bigger sensor for 3x zoom.

The Voice of Reason, 14 Apr 2020OnePlus 8 = ovepriced meh. OnePlus 8 Pro = extremely overp... moreNo, because with the actual base, the only thing that they need to do is add the telephoto to vanilla 8, a 5x periscope from BBK to the 8 Pro and increase their again the prices with the 8T and 8T Pro. Next year update the SoC and put the 5x in the 9 and 10x periscope from Oppo in the 9 Pro and ask higher prices again. Never Settle!!! You know...

OnePlus started off as a "Flagship Killer" - providing premium package at a killer price. I own OnePlus 1 and still using 5. But over the year, they have steadily increased prices of their cell phones, with the massive hike this year. Alas, I cannot afford their phones any more. GoodBye OnePlus, will always remember you.
