Weekly poll: have the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro lost what made the brand special?

19 April 2020
While its "flagship killer" reputation was lost years ago, OnePlus at least consistently delivered great value for money phones - is that still true?

These chinese and Samsung are pushing ridiculously useless specs for the number sake and looting people's Money for Nothing. Which is why I decided to buy Sony Xperia 1 II. I have everything I needed in it.

Anything after that is for companies to just boast bigger numbers. I use a phone until it becomes unusable. I take good care of them and since my next phone purchase is going to be a flagship, I will be set for the next 5 years.

Blame Qualcomm for jacking the chip sets sky high. Any phone with SN 865 going to be expensive.

Better off getting SN 765 it would be cheaper.

its replace by realme from the same group of companies...

Following the wrong trend with prices. The days of being the underdog is gone. $299 6T will be more than enough for most folks.

why there is no choice for any negative comment ? "OnePlus lost their way" said some of the folks from previus comments, amen to that brother. if we look at from cost benefit analysis perspective 8 pro is a regular flagship, not a special phone, in this price range i will go for samsung s20+ (in 2 months at the latest they will be at the same price range).

they are now just following the overpricing trend...

They're focusing on chasing the likes of Samsung and Apple now. They forgot their roots of "flagship killer" is what made them who they are now. I am leaving this brand for a more affordable alternative.

I just love how there's no choice for "OnePlus lost their way", or pretty much any negative response option in the poll.

Anonymous, 20 Apr 2020Mi 10 is much better buy than OnePlus 8. But the OnePlus 8... moreI agree with this.

Samsung produced a lot of screens with punch hole. Now they are selling it to everyone for cheep prices to get ride of it since they already have under display camera screens. OnePlus company thought that they will make great deal by using this screen. But I am never gonna buy a phone with Punch Hole or Notch. I prefer Google Pixel 4 design or the best possible option for me to use front facing camera - pop-up camera! That is why I stick with my OnePlus 7 Pro until they stop spoil screens with scars. In smartphones it is all about screen. I do not want to have any distractions when using, watching, browsing. Bad Move OnePlus!!! and the price........ a joke?

The pro may cost that much but thats what happen when you got high end everything. The 865, the ddr5, the main cam sensor, waterproofing and wireless charging. i'm betting the same people who asked for waterproofing and wireless charging are now the same ones complaining about price. You want that stuff, its gonna cost you. Sure, you could get a cheaper S20/S20+ but you lose on the better main cam, faster charging and in the case of vanilla S20, bigger battery. Also unlike the S20 series, the 8 pro screen isnt static in refresh rate (https://www.phonearena.com/news/oneplus-8-pro-vs-samsung-galaxy-s20-ultra-120hz-display-specs_id123398), you get 120hz at all resolutions where youre forced to choose 120/1080 or 60/QHD on the S20. As for the 7T comparison, yeah its still a good phone. But you miss out on the future proofing of 5G, the 865, the ddr5 memory, higher ppi density, 120hz, and better main cam (the oppo find X2 pro, which has the same sensor as the 8 pro, is ranked 3rd best phone camera wise on dxomark) https://www.dxomark.com/oppo-find-x2-pro-camera-review/ Obviously if its worth it or not, thats up to you. But again, you cant have a ton of high end tech in one thing and expect it to be cheap. Theres a reason budget phones/mid rangers cost less. LCD panels, less cameras, lower resolutions, smaller batteries, less ram, etc. Oneplus isnt holding a gun to your head.

OnePlus is doing the old. Shines trick.
First, gather loyal fan base with ground breaking methods, ie. The flagship killer stance.
Second, after having these loyal fan base and youtubers, start to up the price slowly.
And finally, the final straw, squeeze the fans for the maximum amount of money you can.

                                        Brilliant I say.
