At least watch some youtube videos about this topic if you don't want to read further into it.

The problem with those with whom you challenge are so set in believing the false marketing and fake news. They would have you believe, the upcoming technology that delivers 480 Hz refresh rate to displays would bring sight to a blind person - the miraculous medical wonders of marketing at its best. The same is true for the miraculous medical marketing of products that allegedly "cure" COVID-19.

There is only significant change between 60hz UI experience and with 120hz. Nothing drastic and everyone can live without it. On the other hand, gaming experience is truly revamped with 120hz and sadly, 120hz is only useful for gaming.

I hate notch because they consume useful notification/statut icon space, that's the only reason I disabled my notch on my OnePlus 6t.
On iPhone the notch are actually good and logical as they literally don't use that much space up there, but this is a vital part on Android device, you should know that Apple's notch contain many sensors for 3D facial recognition while not bothering the statut icons around it (it is more a bezel with the statut bar moved around it than a dent on the display), on Android that the opposite, it waste space on the most space sensitive area of the phone while most of the time only allowing for a single camera and no other sensors.
Because of the notch trend on Android phone, we loose many nice sensors, ambiant light and proximity sensors got schrinked and place in stupid places, making them quite bad (I hate how my OnePlus 6t isn't able to adapt properly to ambiant light and do stupid thing with the proximity), or even worse, using the camera to replace them, and because of the notch shrinking (they understood quickly that doing like Apple wasn't going to work, but rather than leaving this notch idea, they tried to compensate by making it smaller), now we are with Android phones that don't have enough space for 3D Facial recognition sensors while still eating space on the statut bar, and unlike Apple who have a single unified design, the notch stupidity who gave birth to the hole hell caused significant useless compatibility issue for a lot of apps...

Do kindly let me know what refresh rates does when you're browsing? Only beautiful scrolling. When you do not scroll, higher than 60hz refresh rate does not help you read, look at images or watch videos any better on websites. Do you know what refresh rate even does?
The support for higher refresh rate for Chrome is only for smooth scrolling and HTML animation renders (very rarely used). You need a crash course on what refresh rate does rather than just reading marketing information.

No, high refresh rate has no effect on movies be it action movies or not. All movies are basically 30fps and at the highest, they only go to 60fps.
High refresh rate phones are only useful for gaming and beautiful scrolling (lol?). Watching videos, tv shows, movies, browsing websites, instagram, tiktok, video call, using any apps, and more others do not make use of higher than 60hz. Mostly only use 30hz.

Excalibur, 17 Apr 2020Lst's just say higher screen refresh rate is for fast movin... moreI am not saying that higher refresh rate shouldn't be a thing, I am 100% for higher refresh rate and I know the benefits outside gaming.
I just said it isn't a vital thing, mainly considering it can be expensive, there are many peoples who would prefer a cheaper phone than a phone with higher refresh rate, which is exactly the case of the K30 Pro, I mean, it doesn't even make 1 year that high refresh rate started to be a new trend for smartphones, as long as it is still expensive, it is perfectly okay for many phones (outside of high end and flagship) to come with 60Hz display.
Adaptative refresh rate is amazing I agree, even on 60Hz display can be a nice thing, though you may realize that higher refresh rate isn't a huge battery drain from the display itself, mainly for an Oled which don't need much more power to chance color and brightness than to maintain them, what really burn the most power between 60 and higher is the computation, as from 60 to 120Hz, you literally need twice the same data per seconds, and display have a lot of calculations going on, so it really do eat more, a good solution is to have a dedicated chip to handle all those calculations, so unlike what peoples think, it is not the display itself that require the adaptative sync tech to lower power consumption.
But we could go even further beyond !
Imagine an adaptive rate able to get as low as being frozen on a single image until there is a change and which can with low energy consumption only update the part of the display where something changed, this would make the display way more energy efficient !
I hate notch because they consume useful notification/statut icon space, that's the only reason I disabled my notch on my OnePlus 6t.

USF 3.1 is nice, having faster and better memory is good, I just said it isn't a necessity, same as higher refresh rate, this is something we should give it time to grow and become cheaper rather than being disappointed if it isn't on all phones, it will eventually come, I didn't knew about the battery saving though !
In my case, I am far from getting my dream phone :
*A Snapdragon 865 or something equivalent (not just about power but also about protocols and other important chip based softwares).
*3D Facial recognition with IR and dot projectors at least.
*Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max or equivalent for the fingerprint scanner.
*No notch or hole and if possible not bezel (I want pop up or all sensors on the back, I don't need a display to take selfie and I never do video call anyway so I don't even need a second display on the back).
*NFC, Jack, wireless charging, good battery of at least 4000 but 4500 and more would be great.
*multiple 1m precision satnav protocols (A-GPS L1 + L5, Galileo E1 + E5a, Beidou B1 + B2 and Glonass L1).
*I'd love to get a Sony IMX700 as the main shooter and a good 3x or 5x telephoto, a macro and wide angle (regardless if those two are their own or a capability of the telephone or one another) and ToF sensor, optical stabilisation and optical zoom are a must have, and I want the sweet sweet 960fps slow motion that every good flagship with a SD865 should have.
*I don't care if it is an LCD with Miniled or Full Array Local Dimming or an Oled, byt I want Always On Display !
*Gorilla Glass 5 or 6...ANd Wi-Fi 6E (ax) 6Ghz.
I know such phone would be expensive, but I would pay a lot for such monster, even at 1500€ territory is something I would consider just to say how much I would want such a device !

AnonD-909757, 17 Apr 2020A lot of peoples (the vast majority) don't want those displ... moreLst's just say higher screen refresh rate is for fast moving multimedia video applications like gaming action movies and so on. What should be interesting is the adaptive refresh rate to preserve at least battery life. Having higher refresh rate is like future proffing your phone for future games that support higher refresh rates.
Im ok though with a notch if and only if there is a hide notch option such that when the notch is "hidden" the top and bottom bezels look symmetrical at least... I think in the case of mate 30 pro, fhey did a good job because there is a hide notch option in the settings.
About the ufs 3.1, the cost of production will be cheaper and battery life, in comparisson with a phone running 3.0 both having the same battery capacity, would be higher... So ufs 3.1 for now is an important feat not to be left out.
Right now depending on the design of iqoo neo 3 5g, im also waiting for legion gaming phone and im either gonna consider black shark 3 pro or the upcoming rog 3 because of their dual front facing speakers, again we go back to symmetry, man im such an OC... but it seems im leaning towards the rog 3 if legion phone doest have front facing speakers.

Excalibur, 17 Apr 2020Well we both agree with the irritating notch and punch hole... moreA lot of peoples (the vast majority) don't want those display destroying things on their phones...
Good, I took the good practice of criticizing all the invading and undesired features that leave no other options and are too common, but I avoid to criticize things which are beneficial for most, who are rare or who don't bother peoples who don't care about them (and don't cost much).
UFS 3.1 can't just be put on all devices, for an entry level, at the time being (the 3.1 is recent and probably more expensive than the 3.0 and way more expensive than 2.1) it don't make sense, it just depend on the use, some peoples will never be in a situation where UFS 3.1 is required for them, even on flagships, for example on my OnePlus 6t who have 2.1, its speed is really good for me and I'd rather have a cheap 2.1 than the expensive 3.1 if it lower the price by a significant margin.
But don't worry though, rare are mid/top range and flagships new phone without UFS 3.0 and more and more get the 3.1, so this isn't as if this tech is at risk to disappear, except if a faster and cheaper alternative or the next gen appear.
Battery life benefit almost everyone, that's one of the reason why cursed edges dis-astrous-play are a bad thing, it reduce the available internal volume of the device where more components could be put there to allow physically bigger battery, also there is solid state battery who may appear in a not so distant future, dramatically improving capacity for the same dimensions.
High display refresh rate isn't necessary for everyone, of course I am not against it, a 144Hz, actually I can see the future where a lot of mid/top tier and flagship will top at 240Hz (over this, it became near useless though), but not everyone need it, and more importantly, there are also other specs that we often forget about.
The response time is quite important, though on Oled it doesn't matter, but on LCD it does, but something most peoples don't even know about and which is the biggest deal for any gaming product, is the input lag time.
Response time is how fast the pixels, once they receive the electric signal, change from a color to another, though it is often measured from grey to grey, but input lag is how much time from when the computer/phone emit the generated image to when it is displayed, because the signal is processed it isn't in real time, and this tiny delay can quickly make you a big advantage when it is reduced to the minimum, ideally it is fast enough so an image can be updated as fast as the time between two frames of the display.
To mesure it, just divide 1 (second) by the refresh rate, so at 60Hz, 1/60 is 0.01666..., so a 16ms to 17ms max input lag is good, on 144Hz you need 7ms maximum to get an image updated before the next frame.
It is considered a good value under ~15ms and a ~5ms is consider really good, and this is as important as refresh rate if you want to do games.
Though for most other tasks than games it won't really matter.
Technically the lower it is, the better, but there is also a negative return point where it doesn't serve any purposes but require more complex, powerful and expensive electronic to handle.
But for most older persons who just browse internet/social networks, a 60Hz is more than good enough, so don't forget that while higher refresh rate is good and you want it, it does not mean that all phone need to have it, though I agree that it make sense on flagships to have it, but on flagship killers (where the lower price is the goal) and just top tier phones, it is perfectly acceptable to use 60Hz and have a lower price than having a higher refresh rate, even at 90Hz.
About symmetry, what do you think about the Pixel 4 and 4XL ?
Also ignoring its notch (consider it is just a bezel) what about the Huawei Mate 30 Pro ?

As far as other specs cited, im ok with or without them because i dont know use or benefit from them but they sure dont impede with what i need so for me they're less important. But the ufc 3.1 is a must if you're getting the latest due to its benefits, battery life is important along with the fluidity of the phone. So for me bigger battery, fast charging, ufs 3.1, dynamic screen refresh rate up to 144 hz at least for now, symmetrical design.

Excalibur, 17 Apr 2020Ditch the punch hole or notch, make the front of the phone ... moreWell, actually :
*NFC helped me pay when I didn't had my card on me, multiples times, and during this pandemic, I am glad I have a contactless option.
*3.5mm Jack would have allowed me to talk with someone who I only had on Instagram (so no computer here) with my Corsair Void Pro who can be unpluged from the USB soundcard and plugged into the phone, and no I don't want an adapter for something who should be in the phone, my GF looked many times at Netflix on her phone while recharging it, it wouldn't have been faisable without the Jack port, which allow native compatibility with way more accessories than there ever was made specially for smartphones.
*Notification lights is great for people who aren't constantly checking directly their phone, it attract enough the attention to inform there is something to check without having the need for sound.
*It should be illegal to make a phone with Oled which doesn't have Always On Display (that all Oled can support, it is just a software thing), just looking at the time, the date, battery statut or anything with a single glance without need for interaction is great !
Note that here you are talking about features that wouldn't cause anything negative if your phone had them as you could simply not use them, and unlike a puke hole, they aren't invasive, you can live without knowing they are there, also they are really cheap (NFC antenna, Jack port and a small LED are basically pennies and AOD is just code), so please don't fight against them, many peoples do want them and they aren't going to hurt you.
Just remember that once the first portless phone (meaning no USB anymore except if my magnetic portless wired solution is adopted) will be released, many will follow as a trend, and one day someone will say something similar as what you said here for the Jack, but about USB, do you really want that ?
But other than that, I agree, the puke hole, teardrop nofulldisplaytch** and cursed edges dis-astrous-play trend need to stop once and for all !
I mean, yeah, they can make one or two phones with those cancerous thing if they want, but NOT THE ALMOST TOTALITY of the fricking mobile market as it is currently ! This is pure madness...
A thin bezel is really okay for many peoples, for those wanting fulldisplay there are pop up module or no front camera options, but what is really missing is 3D facial recognition sensors which should be te norm.
Considering the really thin but still existing chin, they can surely put a speaker down there.
UFS 3.1 isn't a necessity on all phone though, it make just the phone faster (and I haven't seen any moment where my phone's memory was too slow for me), if the phone aim to be low price or isn't on the top/flagship segment, the UFS 3.0 or the good old 2.1 can be justified.

Ditch the punch hole or notch, make the front of the phone symmetrical with dual front facing speakers and ill buy this right away. People are to attached with not so important feats like nfc, 3.5mm jack, notification lights, always on display, and so on, and forgets about what's more important like battery life, symmetry of the front (im talking about not having anoying notch or punch holes), dual front speakers, ufs 3.1, i hope they include ir blaster...

I must confess initially I thought this whole tacky sounding iQOO thing is just another wannabe brand trying (fruitlessly) to match awesomeness of ROG Phone.
But seeing this article, and if they really do pull this off, like real variable refresh rate of Razer Phone's IGZO panel, and at this insane price then they just deserve respect regardless of whether its LCD or AMOLED. or which brand various people here prefer.
It's a much needed and even more welcome solid innovation.
