Robert Downey Jr.'s OnePlus 8 Pro ad goes live

16 April 2020
The ad is lighthearted and fun, but does a good job of showing off all the new features.

Domestoboto, 19 Apr 2020Do you have proof that OP8 has "no Widevine L1 certificatio... moreApparently, only the US/North American variant has Widevine L1 certification. It has always been like that as with all the previous Oneplus phone models.

So if you live elsewhere and get an international variant, it's more often than not Widevine L3 certification only. Neflix, Google Play movies and Amazon movies will all be in horrible low resolution 480p.

It's the same issue with most other PRC China [mainland] based smartphone companies. Even the most expensive flagships from Xiaomi, Huawei, and Oppo and Vivo (Oneplus sister companies) don't have it.

The exception is Asus because Asus is Taiwan ROC based (technically it's still China [Taiwan, Republic of China], but it's not PRC [People's Republic of China], that is, [mainland China] based). It's a studio thing. Movie producers are wary of those PRC based phones because there's more piracy there.

            Waste of advertising money.

The advertising money would have been better spent adding missing features to the crippled Oneplus 8 phones - like micro sd storage expansion, headphone jack, Widevine L1 certification, an IR blaster, FM radio, etc. and the advertising savings could have lowered the EXORBITANT price of Oneplus phones significantly, doing SO MUCH MORE to PROP UP its sagging 'flagship killer', great value' appeal.

Sorry Oneplus, only Oneplus fanatics ang Oneplus cultists will buy an overpriced phone with no headphone jack, no micro sd storage expansion,no Widevine L1 certification, etc.

No Robert Downey Jr. ad will change that even if the potential buyer is an avid Ironman fan.

This phone stands toe to toe with all the best phones out there, yet costing hundreds of dollars less than comparable Samsung and Apple. It’s just awesome. Who cares about a stupid actor. Fire the actor and cut the price by 50 bucks.

I don’t watch pointless movies so I have no clue who he is.

I expect the phone used by a man who looked like Stark should be so much more advanced than the current one shown in the video.

this is not a good idea to have made such an ad. it gave an impression of so-old tech.

nice add. one plus 8 series is actually promising if compared to the other better known brands; still better value for money. now, after sales support, such as software updates and accessible and reliable phone hardware service will really matter if 1+ wants to establish itself as a really good brand. here in our country, i realized that even OPPO and HUAWEI have better hardware repair/service than Samsung, whereas Apple charges so exorbitantly! And LG, they’ve long been trying to resurrect themselves not knowing that after sales support has been one of their greatest weakness.

You can't get a 120hz+qhd++ip68 with better build quality in low price. Period.
