Nubia phone are game focused. The camera quality just sucks big time that your hand sketches is better than the photos you took from this phone.

JDK, 22 Apr 2020To be honest, nubia did take the right path: I feel like th... moreNot needed. 865 has 5G which this phone IS NOT marketed towards. 865 is also much more expensive, runs hotter and harder. 765 is more battery efficient and cheaper. Different phone models like anything are made to a price to target a particular sect of consumers. High, mid, low, gamers etc. So no. This phone doesn't need an upgrade to 865. It brings minimal extra at too much cost. This is targeted quite obviously towards those that want an array of uses including gaming, having a battery left at the end of the day and not have to spend big on a phone that costs alot more for a few FPS and uses battery faster. Looks like a good one to me.

But, I was a reply to another person saying that nubia should have put a snapdragon 865 in this phone. Nubia could have put a snapdragon 865 in the nubia play, but at the sacrifice of screen refresh rate(probably)

However, there is currently no other phone that gives you a 144Hz panel at this price range, along with a capable SD765G SoC. I think they took the right route. We need more diversity in phones. Not the same type of phone from every company.

So in the case of the Nubia Play, it's 144Hz panel can technically show 60, 90, 120, 144Hz, or variable, but the options are limited to whatever Nubia provides.

But are you sure that it is that easy to manipulate refresh rate with software? I thought that 60hz phones can't be pushed over 85hz in refresh rate?

High refresh rate is something that can be tuned down with software, but not the cost difference between two electronic hardware.
