It's funny Xperia 5 has same width as iPhone SE 2020 ... Xperia 5 II could be even smaller 6,1->5,8" sooooo posibly the most compact phone of 2020.
I find it kinda curious.

    In the days of netflix and amzon prime, 21:9 ratio is actually good. Sony has only taken that 1 step from 20:9 (currently almost all mobiles use this)

    Though nobody cares about design awards, IF design awards are like oscars in smartphones segment. It is just an example that Xperia is more Pragmatic, yet sexy :)

    90hz- Hey sony motion blur reduction is not MEMC used in OP8 pro. It is not just for videos. It is for everyhting, they say :). They never mentioned about adding fake frames into the video. And yeah MEMC is really bad. Even hollywood are against it lol.

    Having said that, yeah let's wait for new Xperia device. Hoping it will come in May here in europe :)

      IMHO higher refresh rate is more useful beucase you can actualy see it. 4K on 6,5" is pretty much wasted, unless you strap it a headset and call it a VR day.

      It's good, but it's not reliable is my point. On cameras is almost spot on, on Xperia 5 ... not really and it's slow as sin. MP stupidity is simple PR talk for that works only on brain dead users :D it's nice to have 16+MPix not because of more=better, but because of binning.

      (21:9 aspect Ratio)
      IMHO worse for the usual content consumption. I seriously can't find a reason to watch a movie on a phone ... Youtube video on the other hand ...

      (IF design awards and Red dot awards)
      My power outlet won Red Dot award ... seriously. I guess it's a nice sticker to put on a box of said device.

      (Not-snaprdagon)
      I actualy forgot about Kirin and was ignoring Mediatek. Kirin is a subpar SOC when it comes to video. But to be fair to Sony, they are often using Mediatek in their low end ... and it's suuuuuuucks (I mean their low end).

      Another PR sticker on the box.

      (Camera shutter)
      It's awesome to launch camera app instantly. But the button on Xperia 1 and 5 is really cheap wobly plastic, older phones were certainly better.

      People like to complain about things that they do not use. Vocal minority at best.

      (Sony jack)
      Sony will use (probably) just integrated DAC. No settings and ease of use App can save it.
      Better than nothing for sure.

      (90Hz)
      Every smoothing has it's issues. Every smoothing is not accurate, ads inputlag etc. I turn every smoothing settings on my TVs, makes me sick TBH.

      (SD card)
      True, true ... sadly a lot of flagships do this :(

      (IP68)
      Sony and watter resistance always brings back bad memories of older phones where, despite IP rating, Sony refused RMA them.

      (FPS sensor)
      Sadly it's low quality hardware, I saw a lot in "internal testing logs" proving it. It's better on Android 10 update, but unless you register your one finger five times, it refuses to work.
      Sony has a support page related to this issue on Xperia 1 and 5.
      If they used different, better sensor ... thank god!

      IMHO Corona delays are simply because they are fixing camera related bugs found in preproduction units. Corona is simply an excuse in this case.

        (Not god tier, far from it, but really good)- What? You only find this in real cameras, no oher smartphone has this feature. Also least Sony and Apple are not going after MP stupidity.

        (depends on implementation) - I'm waiting to see myself

        (useless) 21:9 aspect Ratio - It makes more sense than 20:9 which is no good for both 16:9 as well as 21:9 content

        (subjective)- I agree but one must remeber Sony has been winning IF design awards and Red dot awards consecutively

        (nobody but Samsung uses Exynos) - Don't forget mediatek, kirin chips too. In the end, SD is better than others, yet companies are selling for same price but never sony :)

        (totaly useless and simple software function) - It is never useless but it is good thing to have additional feature especially when someone calls it premium flagship.

        (far from LG offerings) Photo pro & Cinema Pro- Cinema pro is actually good, you only find these filters in 6K Sony video cameras. Can't wait to have Photo Pro to play with setting especially Sony peforms really good in manual mode.


        (Seriously, it's wobly AF. Nice to have, sadly implementation is lacking) Camera shutter button- I've used Z5 for 4 years, never was it wobbly and it acts as shortcut to open camera directly. Good for instant pics

        (nobody cares) Wireless charging- People complained about this on X1

        (It's Sony, it probably will sound mediocre) Headphones jack- Sony music app with sony settings is considered one of the best. Just saying, only LG had upper hand with in built DAC recent years.

        (Downright useless and PR talk, the screen is 60Hz, smoothing is useless)- SD865 can run 4K only at 60Hz. You can't have 90 or 120Hz along with 4K. Also You haven't watched hands on video in Japan, do you?? That 90Hz equivalent indeed seems to be working :)

        (Great as any other device) MicroSD Expansion- Not many 1000$ mobiles offering this. So it not on any other device. Example latest OP8 Pro (top end with charger costs 1070$ yet no memory exapnsion)

        (Great as any other device) IP65/68 rating- No other device offers you 2 ratings :). One of the reason Sony lives in swimming pools and kitchen sink jets

        (Useless, because it's low quality, low accuracy trash - at least on Xperia 1 and 5)- It is due to software bugs last year. It works like charm on older devices. Also this year Sony is coming with new fps, Good news for americans (till now sony used to remove fps in USA due to legality issues or patent issues)

        Can't wait to get my hand on Xperia 5/1 II- Neither can I but lot going on atm in Sony Mobile department (merging with other dept), corona, production issues etc.,.

                Just because majority of americans choose Trump as their president, doesn't strike out the fact that he is a clown. Yes, sony has been doing bad for past 3.4 years but tbh last year is almost perfect but still came with baggage. This year specs are perfect too. I mean no other mobile giving me 4K display with BT2020 as well as 3.5mm headphones jack. Not to forget Microsd expansion.

                Camera is also going to change with larger camera sensor, zeiss optics and camera pro app. Devices are not even out, yet you calling X1 II is no exception. Don't be one of those biased sony hater. When they are doing something good, learn to appreciate things.

                PS: 21^:9 makes much more sense than 20:9 or 19:9 aspect ratio. Why?? read my other comment again.

                  Because people like to follow trends, and the trends in mobile phones are created by apple, samsung and Huawei.

                  The specs on the paper are something and the performance on the real world is something else.

                  I don't like notches or punch holes as many people don't, but give me a notch with a normal aspect ratio, and not the sony weirdest aspect ratio in the market.

                  Also the camera performance of sony phones always lower than other flagships, the xperia 1 ii is not an exception.

                      If they copied nubia z20 dual screen on the back but used this front (without punch hole), it would have been great looking phone. Plus bottom bezel speakers too for a truly symmetrical front

                        Meizu love your handsets but not Flyme please adopt Vanilla Android before it's to late for you, your sell more as well I cannot understand why you stick with Flyme it's so far behind!

                          Back looks good but front is ugly.

                            I do remember this one Meizu smartphone that has a hexa-LED (read: six-LED) flash. I'd be surprised to see that on this Meizu 17.
