Apple will reportedly launch ARM-based Mac in 2021 based on A14 SoC

23 April 2020
Is currently working on custom A14 processors that will power this year's iPhones and at least one Mac next year.

Nvidia has only one soc running on switch and shield TVS, they cant compete with Apple A chipsets in graphics or processing power. If you talking about Nvidia mobile gpus it is different category, because it is discrete mobile gpus with much higher power consumption. So so far where is no competition regarding Apple chipsets

Completely makes sense, A chipset anyway already destrying intel in laptops so why not, it would bring more efficient more powerful chipset when anything Intel could offer in same power consumption range. Well AMD is now new king in laptops and provides insane power per watt, but I guess Apple can aim to be king in lower power consumtion chipsets :)

          AMD - cheaper & better
          ARM - cheaper

          Is Intel going down?

hopefully for gpu-part they are going to rely on RDNA 2 XD

Enjoy paying 5x the price for new stuff and then shooting yourself five years later once the manufacturing process becomes stable and your can finally buy a 5nm chip at the same price as the disgusting "14++++++++" chips you despise so much.

                        Yeah, promises-promises. *Yawns*

This one's going on for years. Never happened. And even if it does, Intel won't allow it's instruction set to be emulated on hardware level, or something to they effect which happened with qualcomm and windows on ARM. Some kind of legal threat to keep it going unchallenged in processor market.

                        Bottomline:
Even the entire macOS being ported isn't enough on its own. Support on hardware level is required to make it happen. To achieve IPC, and speed of x86.

But Hey I'm all for trying and breaking Intel's Monopoly.

The x86 code was translated to arm code and run. You get close to maximum performance once the translation is done, except some want to translate on the fly during execution and cache, which bogs down execution until enough is translated if they do this every execution istead of once, it's even more slow.

Blows doors off competition? Maybe on mobiles, but how does it compare against Nvidia? I'm not talking about the very old leading designs in the Nintendo Switch, but it's much upgraded latest designs. It will be interesting to see if they move them into the desktops.

If true, I will definitely buy one

Microsoft has failed about every attempt to make ARM processors run x86 software. Emulation seemed to be the only solution but then performance is crippled even on overclocked Qualcomm processors. This said I don't think Apple will do any better and the final product will be nowhere as usable as Intel, software and performance wise.

Its will be easy for Apple. Even Chromebook already use ARM chips cause their closed OS.

But all of you will wonder, why There is no Chromebook with Snapdragon SoC? I found on article because Snapdragon dont want support 6 years updates. Instead...... Mediatek. Yeah, mediatek can provide you update with 6 years on Chromebook like Ideapad Duet. Amazing right?

That one of reasons why you stop underestimate Mediatek. Another reason is Mediatek has close relationship of IMAGINATION. The Discrate GPU company for ARM chips, just like NVIDIA with X86 chips. They has powerful GPU products even they said their GPU wanna be support Ray Tracing hardware based.

Just shows you how powerful our smartphone chips are nowadays. Love technology.
