Who do you think make reports from shipped units? probably not that companies mentioned, it was canalys first (and some other market analyst firms) but there are also analyst firms who only use numbers of unit sold reports instead shipment numbers, because its more reliable. Or maybe the reports from canalys are sponsored by some companies here to announce shipments reports also from other companies to 'fool' people or in other words like i said before: marketing purpose.
How about you ask accounting expert or the company itself, how to determine 'real' income? is it based on shipment or sold numbers? they will answer the latter, unless, they use 'shipment numbers' for accounting fraud or for PR sake or any other reasons, but the company itself realized the real numbers.

I don't even know how is that strategy sustainable in first place.... It doesn't add up, besides, all companies report shipped units, why would oppo, xiaomi, samsung or realme be an exception? vivo is still BBK after all. Oppo and vivo are only ones who sell phones at any profit (Op8 pro for example is 300 Euro cheaper than find x2 and has wireless charging as a bonus with similar hardware, who do you think is taking that loss?)

After Covid I dont want to buy Chinese phones even though they offer fantastic value for money. My last 3 phones have been Redmis, Remi Note3, Redmi 5 and Redmi note 7 and they punch above their price point. I would never buy Oppo Vivo or Huawei.
However I don't have a choice as even if I buy Samsung, the components inside most probably come from China and the phones cost more and dont offer the bang for buck as Redmi phones do. Samsung either match Redmi in price if you want to use Chinese components, or go 100% Indian if you want to charge a small premium.

Vivo z1x and z1 pro is far better than any samsung budget phone or medium budget phone. Vivo z1 x and pro beat all Samsung A series, M series, J series including A70 A80 A90 or if still making A100 still Vivo better in term of cost and performance. Nowadays only a fan boy will buy samsung budget or medium phone.

What are you whining about?DonAKG is one of many who wrongly believe phones bearing a logo from a company based in the West, actually have manufacturing facilities in the West. The likes of Apple, Motorola, Nokia are all manufactured in the West - according to DonAKG.
Were you to break it to DonAKG that all the aforementioned companies actually manufacture their phones in China, DonAKG may become filled with such resentment that DonAKG's very own phone risks being discarded in the trash can, or worse still, being destroyed, set alight, or given the sledgehammer treatment.
So better for DonAKG to remain ignorant of this fact.

Anonymous, 28 Apr 2020shipment does not work that way.... shipment is no. of unit... morealthough the numbers of shipments register as income, but at the end of the year those unsold units will be returned by retailers (it also depending on contracts between distributor/retailer) and it has to be refunded that because the company must determine the real 'revenue recognition'
It was common practice to announce big numbers of shipments masked as 'market share' most likely for marketing purposes, showing people that their products is the most popular product in market currently to attract customer buying them.

Their phones are good value, only if they don't ruin it with an iOS wannabe skin and mostly non-existent Android version updates outside of China.

Why would A manufacture 100 M if it only sells 10 M in first place? that is a loss they have to face.... I don't think those guys like to operate while making losses
