They hated and laughed at sony for that aspect ratio and now that the more popular brands do it they praise it. these extreme tall displays are god awfull imo, I hate them and the fanboys here will always ALWAYS find something to complain about, another example would be OP8 Pro, they were crying about the absence of water proofing, wireless charging and QHD for years, now that they got it they hate it because of the obvious increase in price, only god knows why they hate sony so much though, Sony could literally give them a perfect phone with everything you can dream about and they would still hate it. I had the XZ Premium back then and it was a fantastic phone, loved it and sony did a great job with that flagship, I use a S20+ now and they hate it too but it's a very good phone, give me this phone with 18:9 display and i would be in heaven

Remember when Sony launched the Xperia 1 with a 21:9 display? Everybody said it was weird and ugly. Now they're all starting to release longer phones 20:9, 20.5:9 etc..
The same thing happened for waterproofness a few years ago then 4K (Samsung has 1440x3200 on a 6.2' screen which is as "useless" as 4K and they will increase that definition in the future).
