Jo. , 04 May 2020That's called reducing pricesC'mon, NFC antenna cost almost nothing.
9$ (4.~50 piece and 4.~50 delivery) on AliExpress vs 8$ (no delivery cost) for the front camera, and that's the cost of the spare part where the seller need to make profits after buying it from maybe another or multiple seller(s) after buying from the factory, phone makers won't go through that much steps...

NFC is much more useful than a selfie camera, and those curved edge display that a lot of phone come with nowaday cost way more despite being full of disadvantages and having the mast majority of peoples hating them...

I'd buy a phone that have an NFC antenna which cost 5¤ more anyday than a 5¤ cheaper who doesn't have it, hell I'd pay an extra 20¤ for that .

I have a beautiful credit card, a premium, just bellow the Visa Infinite, its black and really well designed, yet I prefer paying with my phone because of the convenience.
Mainly now in a pandemic, contactless payement are more popular than ever, its a shame to make a 2020 smartphone of medium or high range and + without an NFC antenna without a valid excuse...

AnonD-926702, 04 May 2020looks really good tbh any news on its screenaspect ratio?Probably 18.5:9 (like most of their phones) or 20:9.

And not Meizu many other companies drastically drop prices as well. Recently I had a LG V30+ at $150 brand new. The launch price of V30+ on our country was $600.

It just completely beats the Pocopone F1 and I wonder where is the profit margin in that? It's amazing how they managed to have one of the best notchless phone designs (no notch but the curved corner is pretty significant when trying to close ads with the X in the corner), an AMOLED screen, a decent camera and most importantly that 845 in there.

It is just so good yet the price is so low I can't understand how.

This is quite sad that there is a need to tell a 2020 smartphone come with NFC...
It should be a mandatory thing, like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth...
Other than that, if we forget the punch hole (that at least is integrated with the battery icon, meaning it doesn't eat up status icons bar), it look like a really great phone with lots of nice features !

But history reveals that being different doesn't always pay off in terms of sales. I own their 2018 flagship, the Meizu 16th (Meizu 16 in China). Just like the new Meizu 17, it also used a custom made Super AMOLED display panel sourced from Samsung.

Meizu's obsession for notch-less smartphones with symmetric layout, and very high screen to body ratio was always there. For Meizu 16th they jointly collaborate with OLED display panel manufacturer Samsung. Meizu invested 6 million US dollars in R&D to manufacture the 6 inch, 18:9 notch-less display panel as we see on 16th.

The money went into the display packaging technology to ensure that all the necessary components on the front are incorporated in the 7 mm thin forehead on the top & also in integrating the in-display optical fingerprint scanner with the display. The forehead of a smartphone has always been a crowded spot, with the earpiece, cameras, and sensors all cramming for space up on top. Meizu had managed to bring the screen to body ratio to up to 89.57% with this design on 16th. Also the optical in-display fingerprint scanner is jointly developed with Samsung and fused with the display on the inside and cannot be separated or replaced. And all this will be even better on Meizu 17.

As I said above, the Meizu flagship designs are pretty refined and the overall smartphone looks beautiful from all angles. Symmetry has always been a big part of Meizu devices and despite the challenges associated, the company has managed to retain a symmetric design on its Meizu 16 & 17 series. Speaking of the actual display on Meizu 16th, it has the usual traits of an OLED panel with deep inky blacks, punchy colors and great viewing angles. The brightness could have been better at just 430 nits but I had no issues using the phone under sunlight. For $240 brand new what more can I expect from 16th.

                no chin pls?

Since this is a Meizu product it'll probably have the slimmest bezels while being a flat glass screen. That's how it should be.
