The only thing they are guilty of is having the best all-around SoCs in the Android world. Maybe if Merdiatek and the likes weren't so sh*ty (ignoring licences is pretty much the definition of sh*ty), we wouldn't be in this situation where only one SoC manufacturer is worthy of our money -- therefore free to set its pricing without any serious competition.

The answer to the lack of any fair competitor in this space cannot be rewarding companies like Merdiatek. Can't drink your way out of alcoholism.

Anonymous, 04 May 2020Than why europeans are buying Samsung phones with 2 major u... moreBecause you get at least good after-sale support. There are repair shops in every bigger city in Europe. Most of the Chinese phones that come to Europe, are either grey imports (no warranty at all), or from online stores. And when something brakes you have to wait long until your device is fixed. Last but not least, Chinese brands try to copy iPhone's prices... lol. But without the after-sale support, 2yrs warranty, very long software support, etc.

So that doesn't justify ask a lot bigger price. They are only developing an UI, the drivers often are included with the chips you buy for manufacture your phones.

Develop UIs is not necessary and only a matter of manufacturers wanting to differenciate themselves and making things more complex to update and often slower, profiting more bugs, the need of update the UI each time Google do a big change in APIs, libraries, etc. No one is going to include a clause relative to software in their warraties. So talk about software updates is void. It will be supported the time the manufacturer consider profitable for them, that is all.

Apple as they control the OS development has a lot easier ways to maintain the compatibility through or along their generations of phones. In Android, the variety of hardware together with the changes Google usually do and their requirements, doesn't favor of benefit the consecutive updates before require a big overhaul and change in your software. So you only do that while it's profitable and release new one stopping back compatibility when needed.

2 years ago i went with the xiaomi cause it was bang for a buck. Now all new of there devices are as big as every other brand and there prices are same too. Pretty much nothing special. Europe have too much little countries that have low income people. It's not big market for the 500+ Euro price phones and especially when we have all types of old established brands already in here that people trust ike LG, Samsung, Sony and even Huawei. And Xiaomi have not yet established this trust in Europe to have so high price phones. I dont even ook over 200 euro phones or the most top end for my budget is 250 euro. I dont have the need to buy more expensive phone for my use and peope dont buy flagship phones for there kids too, if they dont buy them for there own even. It just dont make sense that people would spend more just cause it's Europe.

Anonymous, 04 May 2020Software updates are only mouth promises. The phone and har... more"The phone and hardware components is what you pay when you buy."
And the Firmware & Software will be created magically by an AI system or what? A phone without software and drivers/firmware is a brick, literally.
Supporting a device means, you have to dedicate a group of highly skilled software developers for many years on a specific device (or group of devices). This group has to write, test, debug, test, create alphas, closed/open betas, release candidates over many years. This and all the other "hidden costs" goes into the final price of the device. Not just the hardware by itself. This is one of the reason why iPhones, were more expensive (5-8 years support!) in comparison to Android phones. But today Android manufactures have risen the prices unjustified high, paying the same you would pay for an iPhone. And they still give a maximum of 2 major Android upgrades and occasionally tiny security updates.
So, if Poco would actually give a very long software support (4-5 years or more), like Apple for example, it would be actually a almost reasonable price for the Hardware it provides. Who doesn't want to keep the device that you payed a good amount of money for some more years and still get full support? Now Poco/Xiaomi (and other phone manuf.) have lost the ball...

I used to be a big fan of chinese phones, hell i'm writing this on Poco F1, but i've decided thats my last chinese product. They messed up big time with these prices. Especially in Europe. Now that the Iphone SE is out, and soon the Pixel 4a is comingor i dont see a reason to buy these phones. Even Samsungs S10e is an attractive option . I want a smaller phone and now at least we have a few nice options.

It scored 181.8 fps on the Manhattan 3.1 test 138.25 fps on Aztec Normal and 58 fps on Aztec High. The numbers are significantly higher than the Adreno 650's 123, 53.5, and 20 fps, respectively, on the same tests. If these numbers are accurate, then Samsung's upcoming line of Exynos chips can potentially outperform Qualcomm's subsequent flagships."
