iPhone 11 gets above-average selfie camera score on DxOMark but doesn’t make top 10

07 May 2020
Unsurprisingly, performance was quite similar to that of the iPhone 11 Pro series.

You are buying a premium phone because of what it really does for you. If camera is your only concern, get a DSLR.

All them influencers are going to be so sad to hear this news. People who put too much value To their selfie camera need to get over themselves.

Peachy001, 08 May 2020Disclosure, I read some of your posts. I want less glass, n... moreYou didn't get it, I am not against bezels/less glass, what I want is not having a camera up my face while it is not required, still, I am fine with bezel, I prefer them over notch and holes, but most peoples want fullscreen and I wouldn't mind having one, just not a curved edge one.
Also I want 3D facial recognition which is secure, convenient and practical (paired with a 3D ultrasonic underdisplay fingerprint scanner).
We both want things that most peoples and the industry want to get away from : less glass, no front camera, even if I give an alternative which is way better than a front facing camera.

What I talk about is simply getting rid of any front camera and things in general and leaving as for only front facing sensors the ambiant light and proximity ones...
Then, on the back, you put all the sensors, main camera, secondary camera as many as you want this isn't relevant, then the retinal projector at the back with all the camera and 3D facial recognition and tracking and Iris scanner and eye tracking sensors that will be required to make this tech work properly.
Even with big bezels like an iPhone 8 it will work fine, though I doubt any modern smartphone with such a tech will be released with big bezels.

                  Edit :
Yes it is a lot of tech, but this isn't about replacing the front camera, this tech WILL come to mobile device regardless, it have for goal to actually replace the display, but meanwhile the display disappear completely (which will take a while) rather than having this tech on the front, lets have it on the back, so it fix all issue with fullscreen display and camera and give you privacy while giving an amazing new tech that doesn't need to be on the display side to work anyway.

AnonD-909757, 08 May 2020If the only thing you have to do is to turn your phone arou... moreDisclosure, I read some of your posts. I want less glass, not more. I hear bits of what you are saying, but it seems like a ton of tech, to replace a tiny camera. I'd say that if someone cannot live with 4 or 5mm of bezel, is beating the wrong drum. I don't mind a notch or cut out. As long as they are central. Under display Would be best, for me.

Actually, aside 4k video, I don't see iPhone selfie cam acing the champs reviewed by DXOMARK

6ix, 07 May 2020So you are saying people would rather pick full displays ov... moreIf the only thing you have to do is to turn your phone around by flipping your wrist (vertical and palm up, to horizontal and palm down), and have basically a badass holographic display that do the same thing as a flat display screen, and can do much more, while actually using the main camera which is way better than the selfie camera on basically any phone...
Then yes, peoples wouldn't care anymore to have a selfie (front facing) camera, literally it will work exactly as if there was a regular LCD/Oled display and you'll be able to do the same thing, but you'll also gain TONS of features and possibilities.

I never said removing it and having no alternatives at all, you don't need a front facing camera, you need a camera with a display on the same side to see what you do.
Which is exactly the idea behind the concept of dual display phones like the Nubia Z20, which is not the first of its kind, not even the first of its brand, because there are peoples who actually want it.

That's exactly why basically anyone except me and few other want and await the underdisplay camera so much, despite putting a camera behind an opaque material, relying on AI and auto processing to fix all the problems that cause, all prototype having many artifacts and the tech not only being researched for years with probably millions (and I wouldn't be surprised if it is up to billions) spent on it while not a single prototype worth putting on any large scale production model yet created, and the really high cost it will come with...

And well, read any news about screenless displays and visual retinal display, everyone that know about the subject will tell you that this is a really fast growing market and this is clearly THE thing of the future, until neural interface do even better at least...
I won't even be surprised if most portable devices don't have any screen in the future...
The only two big steps of screen displays are microled (and miniled backlighting by extension) and graphene based displays which are even better...
People want bigger and bigger display while also wanting smaller and smaller devices, this is exactly what screenless displays (retinal projection and neural interface) allow, up to the same view as a VR headset but without any headset, just your phone in your hand.

Any expert will tell you this is the future, also with privacy becoming a growing worrying subject, the pandemic making it getting out of hand really quickly and a lot of really bad thing that will soon happen about that, peoples will quickly don't want any camera facing them when they are using their device, though peoples will wake up too late about that, it is a disaster waiting to happen, give it 5 years and everyone will deeply regret not taking privacy seriously.

This is scary how many peoples can't get a gasp of the future, you totally mix up living under a rock and simply being logical enough to understand that a fast growing market doing something that science fiction often used because basically almost everyone want that is the thing of the future.
I just hope they implement that as a secondary mean of display on the back of the phone rather than on the front, otherwise, this tech is coming for sure.

If a movie is released by RK Nagar, this is how the scene is played-just like any normal activity in a movie theater under normal circumstances.

What would you expect with all the tiny camera sensors used by the iphones? We don't expect anything exciting from iphones as long as Apple is still under Tim Cook. Tim Cook doesn't understand technology. He is not particularly good with words, either. Every time he starts to talk about the technology, even at the very superficial level, he would sound coached, rehearsed, and ultimately confused. Apple needs someone like Elon Musk as its CEO.

Really good to see these results. Not necessarily for the iPhone 11, but I hope they continue to add more and more front cam results. I'm mostly interested in some Xiaomi phones and the Google Pixel 3a and 4a. I felt like the 3a had an amazing back camera, but a pretty poor front camera. That was the main reason I eventually sold it.
