Weekly poll: LG Velvet is rugged and has a stylus, but does it have a future?

10 May 2020
This is a proper Wacom stylus, not one of those simple capacitive ones. Still, the Snapdragon 765G chipset doesn't mesh with the price LG is asking.

joe nodden, 11 May 2020Lmao I couldn't agree more. These military grade ratings ar... moreExactly. While I think the v30 is a great device and ultra affordable as an almost 3 year old flagship... These mil ratings are completely bogus.
And Samsung is really making the v60 appealing. Unfortunately it would be the best offering for my sister's upgrade if they had a smaller version.

Anonymous, 10 May 2020Since when is a thin glass slab mil? Bogus marketing.Lmao I couldn't agree more. These military grade ratings are bogus. My LG V30 is MIL-STD-810G certified but that means literally nothing. It's no sturdier than the Galaxy S8 it was launched to compete against.

Some or all should be fired from LG's mobile division for these atrocious, continuous steps backwards nearing its demise.

I don't understand LG, they know the price will drop dramatically once the device is made available, I mean sometimes even those redmi budget devices don't drop in prices as lg phones do, so why not give it a reasonable price from the start.

LG with these bogus mil ratings. Your glass slab doesn't even come close to the mil rating of the rugged and active devices. Let alone actual tank and mil devices.
And doesn't even have any extra layers over the display. At least the S7 or s8 active finally added one layer over the display.

afronoia, 10 May 20201080p, no HFR, notch, 48mp instead of 64mp main cam, SD765G... moreWhich phone with 765G/5G, stereo speakers, IP68 for $250?
              Yes, none ....

1080p, no HFR, notch, 48mp instead of 64mp main cam, SD765G. This phone should've priced at $250 or max half of what LG announced. Support for stylus can't help because none included, and Wacom's styluses are expensive.

Has a stylus? Since when is a stylus that you buy separately and can't go in the phone one that it has?

Prices rise because newer components cost more.
Demand of better components and powerful devices.

Nope, it's not the same. LG Velvet, like LG secretly put on V-series, uses Wacom AES, which inferior compared to traditional EMR on Samsung S-Pen.

Who wants an unpolished pen experience for 750$? Velvet+Pen price hovers near Samsung Note Lite or the vanilla Note 10, and that means another death knell for LG. Just presence of pen doesnt make this pricey midranger an alternative to Note series. LG needs to rethink their strategy to survive.

TBH this feels like a propper nail on the LG Mobile coffin.
How could they make LG V60 one of the best priced flaghips and now they release this laughable abomination?

I think slowly and steady we will be seeing rise in smartphone prices. If you compare the price of a solid midranger today to that of say 2 - 3 yr old device. The amount of value offered relative to that period is comparitively less.

                            Reasons?
Well smartphone manufactures realize they cannot rely on their flagship sales anymore. Real sales are driven in the midrange section and therefore they try everything to squeeze every but of profit they can acquire.
Also, makes sense how Snapdragon has completely forgotten the 4xx series lately. The focus on 7xx series is the new chip for this midrange market.

Funny how Apple is playing the opposite game lately, but they sure did their math.

                            Opinions.

As much as I like the Velvet, I'm not so sure about the $735 price tag. Just get the V60, if you ask me.

Realme X2 has nearly same specs... it has 730g instead 765.....
                                But it has better camera....

It is being sold under 250$ ..... So, what's the point that made LG to make this such high priced phone !!

There is absolutely no way this phone is gonna cost $735 in america. The LG v50S was about $300 more expensive then it's american variant just for the 5G connectivity.

I'm expecting more like $400-$500 for this phone.

If this phone came with both the dualscreen and stylus for $500 or $550, it would be an amazing deal.

Findecanor, 10 May 2020By the way, why does the second screen have a notch?cheaper to manufacture

The phone looks nice, but if the stylus and dual screen are sold separately, then it's going to get really expensive. Without these two things, it's a rather ordinary phone that doesn't stand out much.

By the way, why does the second screen have a notch?
