My first and last Motorola phone was the Moto G5 Plus, that phone only saw one major Android update despite all their promises & it took ages for the update to come. I'm never buying Motorola phones again.

Motorola broke way too much promises to be trusted again. I am no more buying any Motorola phones until they get their shit together.

Mr. Anonymous, 13 May 2020Samsung has much better track for their flagship devices. ... moreSamsung has good track record but it is not 4-5 years of update. Samsung offers 2 major os updates and 3-4 years of security updates.
S7/S7Edge received updates for longer period because of Note7 debacle.
S6 stopped receiving updates after 3 years.
S8 is currently on security updates list but will not receive the next OS update.

In any case it is any way much more than what Motorola is offering. I think even Samsung A-series gets more support.

Motorola already broke a lot of promises... So those promises have zero value and can't be trusted. Void words trying to sell their overpriced products.

In few months, Lenovo will release more appealing phones. Sure that they delayed them to give enough time to Lenovorola and watch if some fans bite the hook again...

Ah yes, that plan has worked so well until know lol.

Galaxy S5, S6, S7 got 4-5 years of support. S8 it's still receiving updates and will do so for a few more years.

I guess they understood that people want at least two major updates for this price.

Promising is one thing and fulfilling it is another thing.
They lost very first chance by announcing it for only 1 year. Secondly by changing their own statement they have further creating mistrust.

Motorola has earned bad reputation for itself by irregular updates. Makes no point with this announcements. Spending 1000$ on this is not worth rather pay same price and buy iPhone which has better track records of yearly updates.

Nokia HMD gives 2 years of OS updates to all their phones starting from entry level $150. I have Nokia 3 (2017) which was launched with Android 7 and later received OS updates of Android 8, 8.1 and 9.
If Moto is providing 2 years of OS updates to their $1000 phone, what's big deal in that? If at all they provide 3rd OS update like OnePlus to their phones, then it should be news.

I hate how it says "at least two" when you actually know it's 1 or at most 2 but they give you false hope of there being more than 2 updates

Even if Motorola provides two major updates, it only solves one of the many shortcomings the phone has. Curved screen is a major deal breaker and also the photos it captures is nothing special despite having quite a potent array of cameras.

"If you're going to spend that kind of money may as well just get the S20"

Uhm... Sammy is much worse. 12/18-months ONLY in some cases.

But, all of this falls on the ring leader Google, it is Google's ridiculous outdated licencing agreements that allows these Android's manufactures to cheat on consumers with no repercussions.

Vote with your wallets, family, or shut the hell up.

Yes, of course. Like how they promised Oreo for the Moto G4 Plus, only to deny it and reluctantly giving the update when they were called out for this? Or like when the Moto Z2 only got Pie on Verizon because they promised compatibility with the 5G Moto Mod?
