Sony's Intelligent Vision Sensor is the first to have AI processing hardware on board

14 May 2020
The image sensor can do object recognition in tracking in just 3.1 milliseconds - and it doesn't need the cloud or an external CPU to do it.

This could also assist blind people. Would it be called a seeing aid?
If I were to design one, I would put multiple sensors on a pair of glasses. Each sensor specializing in recognizing certain objects. One sensor could read text, another can work as a smart proximity sensor. Other sensors can help determine location like kitchen, bedroom, or living room. The user will be able to select which sensor(s) to receive information from.

Wouldn't it be nice if a robot vacuum can recognize an object and avoid it.

I really hope that they make a raspberry pi compatible module for this sensor. It would be very useful for low-cost ai-camera for example, raspberry pi zero or zero W.

Imagine a robot's eyes using this camera that can recognize things much faster, thus process the data to do even more advance task.

Or a store, wanna know how many people are in their store, what time is their highest peak so they can have more employee to handle

Or a security camera, doing analytics on people behavior thus can reduce the risk of criminality.

It is so much more than a smartphone and so much more important than fulfilling your need..

Sorry, but I'm not sure if I want AI to do the image processing and recognition for me.

With AI processor hardware on board it eliminates the need for high-performance processors or external memory, making it more secure because image data never leaves the chip, it also have much lower latency, very little bandwidth and significantly lower power usage.

And it seems you also don't read the article because if you do read you'll realize that Sony uses Google's MobileNet V1 for the AI.

                                        It is for security cameras.
I am sure there will be comments of asking cellphones to have it.

There are many tech that will never make to phones, not even professional cameras.
