It's clear that Huawei is getting banned because western companies cannot compete with it anymore.
If this was about something like CIA not being able to install their backdoors into Chinese tech anymore -- deals like this can always be made.
On the contrary, they are actively locking themselves out of Chinese tech by banning them from using Google Apps.
So all this is is corrupted lobbyists getting their competitors banned under the false pretense of protecting national security.
The real underlying issue here is that every empire based on fake money can only print their superiority up to a certain point, and we have reached this point now with the petro-dollar and the euro.

Chinese people constantly have the highest happiness rating and also rate their country and government higher than other countries (the study is done by the west, btw). So the US had forced Huawei to use SMIC (14nm process) to fabricate their chips. SMIC is not as advanced as TSMC's processes.
TSMC(which uses US techs) will lose around $14bln from Huawei's orders. So will TSMC reduces their purchasing from US firms as a result of the ban?
SMIC will now get $14bln from Huawei to improve their processes.
So Huawei will use 14nm instead of 7nm chips.
Note also that Intel still uses 14nm for their 10th gen processors.

All the technology in use has been created by people from accross the globe meaning even Apple will not be able to produce their processors because they use ARM architecture which is British and not American. And if we were to dissect every technology, no country or company will claim the all lot because it's made up of various bits and pieces from various people or companies from different countries including China.
So the US should just stop this game, it won't be good for everyone including themselves.

China has being trying to produce it own processor for years and has even created one of the biggest scams in its country but fails. It all licensed crap or forced deal by throwing money in unfair agreement or acquisition.

The bootloader can still be unlocked but you have to buy an unlock code and therefore nobody wants to make custom ROMs.
