SonyMob, 19 May 2020Great Reply Mate !
We need more people realising this. Thi... moreThanks, sadly Google doesn't do phone that most peoples consider good, which is ironic considering they are the creator of Android and they are one of the company with the biggest value of the world...
Their decision to remove the fingerprint scanner on the Pixel 4 was stupid, biometric aren't interchangeable, if you can put a second one you better do it and not replace it with another...
Lets hope they don't fail on the Pixel 5 !
I think Sony are niche now...
But if they make a phone with pop up + 3D facial recognition + Qualcomm 3D sonic Max or equivalent, I'll buy it !
And considering they recently patented a smartphone with dual pop up (top and bottom, for the speakers and with a selfie camera on the top one), they aren't against pop up, which is great !
The problem is peoples are too obsessed with fullscreen display but are allergic to bezels and they consider pop up unreliable etc and not as a real solution while it actually is a better solution than underdisplay camera, so the only thing left is notches and punch holes...
Also it allow manufacturers to simply make cheaper devices while still charging premium price as punch hole is simple to do...

Whackcar, 19 May 2020So the rumors about under-display camera were fake after al... moreThere is nothing more stupid to do than putting a high quality camera permanently beyond a non translucent object...
Pop up cameras are "under display" but they don't get all the stupidities of trying to see though an opaque surface, plus they are cheaper, already available, have lots of room for improvement and they get you privacy.

I have no idea what you're smoking. What's the point launch a premature tech. I guess you'd rather have a phone with horribly camera optics than have a punch hole. Well if, thankfully most of us disagree 👎.

This year will be tough for the Note 20 cause the future iPhone flagship seems too nice to be true. The 11 Pro Max already killed the Note 10+ and I think this event will repeat again...
Since the 11 family, I feel like Apple became a real competitor and even a threat to Samsung.

If they launch it now people will complain about the price and how bad the front camera is.
Well people will always complain on anything though

We need more people realising this. This stupid so called "tech" sites and youtubers are in pocket of big companies.
I just hate how this stupid trend of Notch followed by Holes in display started.
I am holding on to my LG V30+ since 2.5 years as there is absolutely no other option in current flagships.
Only Sony hasn't gone with notches , holes in their flagships yet but they are minor player now. Last year I really liked that Google didn't join this trend and infact went back to have normal design.

So the rumors about under-display camera were fake after all?
I honestly think it's about time to kill the punch hole. UD cameras have been in development for a while now. It's time to launch the tech, even if it's not fully mature yet.

Are they still bent on using edge screens for something whose main draw is a writing/drawing tool?

Anonymous, 19 May 2020We don't all share the same opinion. I prefer smallest beze... moreI prefer smallest bezel and border as possible too, the problem is that peoples hate bezel and prefer punch hole (regardless if it is centered or not) and notch which both are totally stupid on Android, because not only they are a dead area on the display, but also they caused any useful sensors to be removed to only leave those annoying missing chunk of display only made for almost useless front camera...
And they eat precious space on the status and notification bar which is already crowded enough...
When a smartphone with a thin top bezel (like the Meizu 16, Nubia play etc) get released peoples are angry about it, even if their phone with punch hole they like actually have a chin the same size of said bezel (the Samsung S10 for example have a chin sensibly the same size as the Nubia Play's top bezel)...
https://www.gsmarena.com/zte_nubia_play-pictures-10193.php
https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s10+-pictures-9535.php
Yet peoples will complain that "it have a bezel, we want full screen with hole in them"...
But also some people hate pop up camera for stupid reasons that have been debunked...
They are constantly saying those old "moving part", "wear", "reliability", "fragility", "water", "dust" things while virtually no pop up had issue with any of this and it make the pop up popularity dropping..
That's the issue, almost all 2020 phone have notch or punch hole, alternatives are rare...
3D facial recognition started to become a thing on Android, but those stupid notch that was so useless and undesired they were made smaller and smaller until they turn into a punch hole doesn't allow for those sensors to exist, so they killed a practical and convenient biometric sensor tech in the egg.
If you look at the Meizu 16 :
https://www.gsmarena.com/meizu_16t-pictures-9926.php
It doesn't even have anything else than a single camera on its bezel, the speaker is on the border and super tiny, ambiant light and proximity sensor are under display and the camera is super small, there are absolutely no need for all that...
Compare to something like the Galaxy S9 with all its sensors :
https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s9-pictures-8966.php
It was a time we weren't shy about them, the phone had Iris scanner and real sensors, not underdisplay and/or tiny ambiant light and proximity sensors that cost more and work less effectively...
And it isn't as if the S9 had MASSIVE top bezel, just make a modern (specs wise) S9 with flat display, the same top bezel and no chin and it would be amazing !
The reason why the Meizu 16 had those strange sensors and only a tiny camera on its top bezel its directly because the stupid punch hole invasion caused this trend of having only a single or two camera and nothing else as front sensors, which is directly caused by this fear/hate of any border/bezel...
What I want is a smartphone with a pop up, large like the Vivo V17 Pro that host 3D facial recognition sensors (at least IR camera and dot projectors, I don't even care if it doesn't have a front camera), but there is NONE because notches and punch holes forced a trend of sensorless front smartphones and because there isn't enough pop up to have that kind of variety and too much haters talking against pop up or 3D facial recognition for no reasons...
