19 May 2020
The image sensor has 100-million phase-detecting photodiodes and can translate light information up to 100 MP.

Let me remind you what i said in previous post : "Mediatek chipset usually has better price to performance ratio than Exynos"

Mediatek Chipset usually has better performance than Exynos in the same price range or class.

Even in the era of Galaxy S1 - S8 Exynos was never the overall best chip in Adroid world yeah sometimes Exynos has better performance in CPU or GPU but most of the time Qualcomm chipset always has more advantages for example the Exynos on S8/S8+ throttled in stress test (Look at Notebookcheck review of S8/S8+.

Anonymous, 20 May 2020Well at least they are dual pixel 1.2um vs pdaf 0.8um. It'... moreIn 2019 there were no smartphone camera sensors that were larger than 24mm² AND had dual pixel or quad pixel autofocus. In 2020 this has changed a lot.
There's a 40mm² dual pixel sensor, a 60mm² quad pixel sensor, a 75mm² dual pixel sensor and now a 72mm² dual pixel sensor.
Theoretically a smartphone manufacturer could maybe also buy the new 32.3 megapixel Canon Aps-c Dual Pixel sensor and crop it for 12.2 megapixels, effectively this would be a 125mm² dual pixel sensor.

Dual/Quad pixel autofocus sensors might be more important for the depth map in portrait mode. They are not that important for the autofocus in my opinion. For example a Google Nexus 5x with laser autofocus usually performs better than the dual pixel autofocus of the Pixel 3a. A ToF camera could be more important for the autofocus.

JDK, 19 May 2020no, huawei's IMX700 has omnidirectional PDAFWhere's the source? Gsmarena said this in their review, but it's wrong as far as I know. I have watched Huawei's presentation of the P40 Pro. Under each microlens there are just two subpixels. This means that the P40 Pro has dual pixel autofocus and not quad pixel (omnidirectional) autofocus. The Imx 689 has four subpixels under each microlens!
Furthermore I haven't seen a single statement where Huawei said that the P40 Pro has omnidirectional autofocus. People just interpreted Huawei's "Octa PDAF" wrongly, which is apparently just a marketing term for Quad Bayer sensors with Dual Pixel autofocus. Quad x Dual = Octa

Hilmawan, 19 May 2020Did you realize that most phones with Exynos are Samsung ph... moreUsually? Until the past couple years...aka s1 to s8 the exynos was generally the best overall chip in the Android realm. And from that s1 to s8 era at least 4 to 5 generations even saw exynos have a superior gpu. Whether by brute force or longevity.
It's only been the last 3 chips that had more issues and that's a combination of a plethora of different factors.
And while they are not what they could be they are actuality still strong performing chips. Just behind some of the other flagship chips.

But now when he plays game or browse Facebook, it heats up badly. Pubg is crashing like anything. So, I wouldn'stay mediatek is better .

I think the reason why Vivo choose Exynos is because they want cut material costs, i'm sure Samsung sells Exynos 980 at a low price because of the many complaints and negative reports.
You'll see more major brands prefer Mediatek dimensity chipsets for their "affordable flagships" when it finally available on the market.

Mediatek chipset usually has better price to performance ratio than Exynos that is why Mediatek is the second largest smartphone chipset vendor globally.

When this sensor is used in a phone based on a Dimensity SoC with native support for AV1 codec, it can become the first suitable sensor for 8K video, assuming the data-readout rate is good enough:
                                High bit-rate (>200 Mbps) + AV1 codex + 50MP sensor with 1.2um pixels = decent 8K video.
