The 600MHz cpu is a Cortex A5 which is faster than an A8 at the same clock speed. Also, the reason the Galaxy S isn't getting an ICS update is the data partition is too small to fit ICS and Touchwiz...

I personally feel that Android is made resource hungry by the phone companies

Else why does a rooted LG p500 feels super fast with a custom ROM

And if the new HTC can support ICS with a 600 mhz processor then why can't a galaxy s

Minimum Requirement for Jelly Bean and following updates should be at per with Froyo or at least Gingerbread.
That will not certainly slow down the phone if one uses a non-official roms android and will function properly.
This is the reason #Vista flopped(although ICS has no performance issue unlike Vista).
I use a rooted LG Optimus one P500 running on CyanogenMod7 RC3 based on GB 2.3.7 and has no ICS rom suitable for daily use(either camera malfunctioning or no usb tethering/offline charging or no fm etc etc).
It has decent spec like 512MB Ram(windows xp uses hardly 64MB-350MB and Android is not a full grown computer OS..so should use less RAM?); 600MHZ ARMV6 VFP cpu can be made overclocked upto approx 800MHz(stable).A beautiful LCD in its price range. Acceptable 3MP cam(pretty good in enough light and accurate colors).

Nokia fanboy sounds boring when they say how their technology is "advancing" way ahead of android, and yet they said android fanboys are geeks, well look yourself in the mirror mate.

Manufacturers are taking their own sweet time to release 2.3.x to 4.0.x updates. They release new phones with similar or lower config than older models but make excuses that older are tough to upgrade!

I expect the ICS share will jump markedly after the release of the Galaxy S3 worldwide. It should grow to double digits in a couple months.

Reading your comments is weird to me. I updated my Nexus S to 4.0.3 in December - not a single problem, ever, it was bugless and fast (even though many Nexus S users reported huge battery problems), but not so much change from Gingerbread. When I upgraded to 4.0.4 I caught that battery bug which Google STILL DIDN'T FIX FOR NEXUS S, that is now 7 months old problem!!
I had no option but to go to a custom ROM, I use AOKP, which is basically improved version of Stock ICS (no UI changes which is a plus) - it is available for many devices, but not for S2, however you can find loads of other ROMS for your S2, that also remove TouchWiz UI, which is hated by so many people.

Updated my Note to ICS, and first impressions are great.Did find some lag issues with the camera, but only on first use.everything else seems to work just fine. I'll feel it's breathed new life into the device, loving it!
