Samsung admitted defeat for their Mongoose architecture but they still manufacture chips. Xiaomi was fab-less and only ever did one low-end design. LG, I don't know about them. Did they really have their own designs or they were just manufacturing chips for other companies?

So far, I can't see any reason why the UK or Japan would do that. You can dislike China while still making business with them. It would be very foolish to think everyone will ditch China companies overnight. It would take decades while heavily investing in local manufacturing and trying to convince people to pay more for their things.

But if they were to just ban any interaction with China, Huawei and any Chinese company could easily "steal" the IPs and use them domestically without paying royalties. And good luck prosecuting someone in China if you're an outsider! With a 1G+ domestic market, I doubt Huawei would greatly suffer from using free IP...

And in the end, sure the USA has quite a chip architecture dominance, along with its close allies (UK, Israel), but as with any other technology, it's not confined to a single geographical region. Anyone, anywhere in the world could come up with a new solution with enough intelligence, knowledge and resources. Pretty sure there's a fair bit of smart and educated people in China...

The only reason the U.S. globalist businessmen even went there in the first place was to maximize their profits. Because if it was, why did, Xiaomi, LG, and Samsung shutdown their own chip-manufacturing efforts? Cost is a factor, i agree but not everything can be solved by throwing money at it. Samsung invested billions in mongoose architecture designs, yet acknowledged defeat in the end. Apple is one of the top super-rich companies in the world, yet until Jim Keller came aboard, their chip dominance did not happen. You really need talent and know-how to navigate these messy stuff regarding semiconductor chips. Otherwise Chinese might not be blamed for repeated offences of stealing technology.

          And why did I bring Stock ARM designs in it?

          Because if Huawei truly want independence from USA controlled eco-system, it eventually will have to move away from ARM, because as i remember, ARM too, had once agreed to suspend license its designs to huawei. They're tightly coupled: USA, Britain, Japan. And if current Anti-China sentiment in UK and elsewhere in the world is any indication, lawmakers can very well push ARM to suspend it once again, then Huawei will need to not only 'manufacture' the chips, but 'design' the arch as well.

          So, If they can't make a custom one based on 'existing' ARM instruction sets, I highly doubt they can make something competent from ground up.


          I'm no fan of USA crying 'cyber espionage'. that's blatant hypocrisy, but if they 'are' using semiconductors to pressure china, they must know, at some level, that its because no-one can match them in this business, don't you think?

                Like phones stop working when they dont get updated. I dont buy me a phone just cause it gets updates and i know a lot of people who never update there iphones even. As long as phone dont force updates on them they dont do it.

                How is that you people cant come up with something better for a argument '? And never mind that your commenting me out of point i was making. While i comment a guy who says cheap phones by LG, Sony, Nokia and even Apple and i ask for the what is the cheap phones he's talking about and you come here to say it has 5 years of updates like it's the only thing the phone is useful

                        I know, I actually even often said that we are seeing basically the beginning of a new cold war between the two countries...

                        For the rest, this is too complicated as there are tons of variables, we would need to really put everything into perspective, sometime the smallest thing that look totally irrelevant can have a gigantic impact, one country could force the other to kneel with a single sentence if they play well their cards, so the outcome is almost unpredictable as it also depend on decisions of peoples that themselves are influences by other peoples we don't even know they exist...
                        So I won't speculate which one could win or loose here.

                                Huawei will start make their own chips not only for the top tier phones they produced. And else actions needed to skip the US ban. And yes the outcome will be catastrophic for US tech insdustry around 5G, 4G 5G equipment, network, and mobile phone tech as well, why not even Laptops and Tablets in let's say 3-4 years time when things get serious in Huawei separation

                                  The trade war is a distraction from both sides to throw sand into the eyes of the public. Trump wants to cover his failure in containing the pandemic: "Corona is Fake News", "disinfectant or UV light inside body helps", "cloroquin helps", "virus comes from Chinese laboratory". On the other hand, after SARS (2003) China opened wild animal markets again. They knew about the danger and have not learned from experience. Without humans near wild animals several epidemics could have been avoided, including SARS-CoV-2 (2019), sparing right-wing populists like Trump and Bolsonaro to uncover their lying scheme. Global warming cannot be denied, and a spreading virus neither. People start taking note of the performance of their leaders. We need an international treaty to keep humans distant from animals to avoid more severe problems. A plant-based diet helps and is necessary to stop global warming anyway. Win-win.

LG, Sony, Nokia and others are not USA companies and well they dont sell phones cheap as well. If you based the value of a phone based on the fact that it have over 6 inch screen and price is under 150 dollars then it's value for the product and is cheap then you dont know about technology. These the most low end these LG, Sony and Nokia sell is still 2-3 times more on cost then same hardware from some random China phone makers.

                                    And back to Apple and Google phones. 550 euro for iphone 2020 SE is not cheap. Google pixel dont sell in every market in Europe and they are not cheap too as they still over 400-500 euro.

                                    And dont say that you can get iphone 6 or 7 under 300 euro and call it a cheap price. These phones are so old that nobody care about them anymore. It's not new technology and if iphone 7 still cost 300 euro and it's insane expensive for 4 years old technology. You dont buy your self a new out of the box phone on android flagship that is 4 years old cause it does not make sense and these probably be under 200 euro too.

                                    From China phones like Xiaomi you already get a good phone that is just released and cost around 150-200 euro. For the price of Iphone SE 2020 you get SD865 chip phones that have all other features up to date too.

                                    all phones under 350 euro can be said cheap. If they already are over that price then they are not cheap and mostly known brand like LG, Sony, Nokia, Samsung and so on you get middle class hardware that are in the phones that cost up to 250 euro. 600 euro China flagship phones have same hardware then these mentioned brands cost 800-1200 euro
