Thank goodness I tot Samsung is dead of their identity. What made Samsung famous n took to no 1 position are the curves. If you need a flat screen you can even buy an iPhone . Curve is eye candy. Curve is beauty. Curve is sexy. Only boring people like flat.

I'm so glad I bailed out of this camera hump madness when I got the Z Flip.
Jaysus! Soon phones will be camera humps with a small display attached to them.

At least Samsung started making screens with less pronounced curves, when put together, the S20+ looks much better than the OnePlus 8 Pro, so I think other companies should at least follow the same strategy.
Still, from my point of view, flat screens always win, the A71 screen is one of the most gorgeous screens when it comes to design, not only it's flat, the almost square shape is great too ( I hate those exaggerated round corners), I wish Samsung could pull something like that with an under display selfie camera in the future.
Then again, design is always going to be a matter of personal preference.

I'd rather prefer the flat screen. I think their loosing out on design.
Samsung should stick to the note 10 design. It's my most gorgeous pick on a large smartphone right now.

Well, I've got to say, I certainly not planning on buying this phone (because of the stupid punch hole and lack of 3D Facial Recognition and curved edges, but also because of the Exynos), but I certainly wait it a lot because it will be the first to use the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max that is the best, by a huge margin, underdisplay fingerprint scanner, and if they don't fail on the algorithms to handle it (acoustic imaging data are way harder to handle than camera or capacitive data, mainly with 3D), it will probably be so impressive that a lot of peoples will want it, and since it is the most secure and the most convenient (mainly because of a way larger area than typical FP scanners on mobiles), it would be a great thing if it spread to many more phones and brands !
But the flat and curved variant choice surprise me, and I am actually really happy they did that, not because I hate curved edge displays, but for the sale of variety that I support even when something I dislike/hate is added into the pool as a choice.
I just hope they won't stupidly misinterpret that one phone selling more over the other mean that X or Y screen shape have more success, because the price and feature differences of the two phone will have a way stronger impact, making their sale figure irrelevant on that context.

Personally, I like the opposite curve, like it was on LG G4. That was good way to have screen just for yourself.

I don't get people and manufacturers' obsession over curved displays, aside from it looks beautifully stupid on a practicality standpoint. Not only does it cost significantly more for absolutely no meaningful advantage, it even makes the phone more fragile, and distorts the content as well in an unpleasant manner.
Finding a protective glass that could truly cover the whole display is already a pain in the a**, forget about installing it perfectly with no bubbles. Holding the phone could easily cause unwanted touches on the curved portions of the screen, and I know they'll say that palm rejection is already good enough to avoid them, but they could've literally saved some precious effort if they didn't make it like this in the first place.
Besides, you can still make a sleek, pretty and ergonomic phone without the need of too crazy curvatures (Xperia 1 II is the perfect example, even the upcoming iPhone 12 series are looking good). And being a Note phone, it is mainly intended for professional use, but since when did professional users ever preferred curved screens over a flat one? Not that it matters the most nor is it always the case, but since then, people have been wondering just what else do the curved edges really do to enhance the user experience, aside from bragging rights that their phones look cool and expensive. TV manufacturers have already given up on curved TVs simply for the lack of use cases for them, and the same thing can be said for smartphones as well. Though quite frankly, only Samsung (I believe) is left out still making curved TVs in the market, but statistics show that their best-selling TVs are the flat ones, and majority of high end TVs are also flat screen instead of curved ones.

I realy hate the rounded edges on my tab s6, and after closer look I've found that the panel is not curved but the pixels are turned off just to match the curves of the tablet. Small issue but still.

You know, something seems very weird to me. For decades, people have been trying to escape the curse of the convex CRTs and buy FLAT SCREEN TVs. The flatter, the better. LCDs and plasma TVs finally made completely flat screens possible for everyone, about 15 years ago.
NOW, for some reason, curved screens are being considered the premium ones! Aren't we crazy people? I won't even mention the round corners (again, just like old school TVs).
I'm not saying that „waterfall“ screens are good or bad, I'm just making an observation.

Curved screens are nice to look at but they serve no real engineering purpose at all other than aesthetics. They don't make the user experience more pleasant as there are touch and reflection issues at the curved edges. Besides, they greatly increase the chances of the phone screen cracking from every day normal stresses (sitting down with phone in the pocket), or from unfortunate incidents like accidentally dropping the phone (they're much more fragile than their flat screen counterparts).
My advise? Avoid them whenever you can. Go for their flat screen counterparts if available. Not only will the flat ones cost less, but they'll also likely be more resistant to fracture.

Both are curved, just one has more aggressive curves.
Otherwise , case would not meet the screen as seen.
