It's funny how the writer of the article, doesn't miss the opportunity to subtely criticize the weight of the phone which is due to the fact that it has a beefy 5000mah battery, which is a welcome change from what we've seen in their previous midrange line-ups.
      Kudos to you writer.

The fact that most phone manufacturers are missing the jack is a strange evolution. It seems that the jack will still be missing on the U20 5G but not on the Desire 20?

I am confident the u20 5G will be overpriced. My eatimation falls between $450 to $550 which is way too high. HTC should know that they no longer sell the brand value to consumers and price their new phones competatively. Nokia started well with HMD global but today they release mid rangers at astonishing prices. It is the poor pricing that has made chinese brands very popular. Today chinese manufacturers have substancial market share and can invest in R&D to produce quality phones that can compete with flagships. Samsung is the only company trying to produce quality affordable smartphones today with their A and M series. Otherwise, if huawei gets Google services the likes of Nokia and HTC will fall again.

HTC Desire 20 Pro for me. I need a jack. Very happy to see HTC back on track!

If the HTC U20 comes to India with a price point around 18k to 20k. It would be a massive hit

I remember wanting to buy a refurbished HTC X9 just for the looks even though it was grossly overpriced in my country. Their latest phones all look like very similar to any XYZ chinese phone. They need to come back with their own unique designs if they want to have any hope of getting back some of their glory days back.

Xiaomi is one of the top mobile phone manufa... morehtc for what ever they are to me is best suited as mid-high mid range devices, they tend to lack on the software and execution side as my experience was with them. Bad software interaction with computers. but the phones for what they are as they sell them has a design language to it for what it is worth. Factoring in that some mobile manufactures in the market dominate you notice that the market is saturated and overrun by specs, targeted customers, , os upgrades & experience , software fixes (timely) , device lifespan, support and releases. Some companies will thrive based on market timing and their products.
so yes they are hanging on barely. they have to know their audience and know where they standing the market. The one thing i see these companies do bad to themselves is going exclusive partnership with cell service providers, which basically makes the desire (no pun intended) for devices in the long run non-existant.

I was surprised that HTC used the U flagship name, but delivered a mid-ranger.
Nothing innovative about this phone. They used top innovate alot. Possibly due to them selling a chunk of their team to Google as some has mentioned.
I hope this is really priced right to get some sales and give them a boost again so that they can make a proper flagship again.

If the company ain't doing well, then it directly affects R&D and stagnates innovation. HTC doesn't have a parent company to find their R&D.

Financial losses and poor results can directly be responsible for employees being laid off, lack of ability to hire high quality experts for the job whether it is technical, marketing or any other department.

This whole thing directly affects long term device support and other things like service centers etc.
