1. Make only SD8xx flagships
2. Yesteryear's flagships are now midrange
3. Two year old flagships and older are considered low-end
4. Updates since the flagship's release should be around 5 years with monthly security updates (Google and Qualcomm should be doing this)

This year of punch holes is dead to me, no exceptions. Maybe I'll look into a Pixel 5 XL if it's interesting and I never thought I'd utter these words, but here I am.

Phone has 1000 pieces, but some ppl here think price is according to CPU only.
I did not like either of them, but Desire is not much more than Moto G8 Power/G8+ were when announced.
Samsung A51 was more bit more than $400 at launch.
Stop comparing to chinese phones. China market is another story, none of foreign companies will ever be able to match their prices.

A 3 year old high-end flagship is basically mopping the floor with the best midrange phones of today (2020)
Versus website scores:
- Samsung Note 8 = 87 points
- Samsung A71 = 74 points
- Samsung A51 = 71 points
I'd go for the Note 8 instead of A71 without blinking.
I'm not saying a today's midrange phone doesn't do the job, I'm saying it will lag more, take more time to compute etc.
If you compare them in real life, you will definitely see a BIG difference.
PS Only high-end flagships for me! Midrange phones are for mediocre people anyway..

Let's break this down:
The Desire 20 Pro's price is similar to that of Helio P70/G80 devices. In hindsight, it's not TERRIBLE considering the 48MP camera, gigantic battery, 6GB/128GB RAM/ROM combo, and HTC's good UI. If it drops by at least $50, it's not bad at all.
The U20 5G is more worrisome. The price tag is not terrible but HTC being the king of audio dropping both stereo speakers AND the headphone jack; even for a mid-ranger is depressing. The Velvet is $85 more but you get IP68, MIL-STD-G, OLED, stereo speakers, and a headphone jack. Sure, it's not as big of a battery or as much hard drive space but I'd pay that extra to get the above listed because that sort of outweighs the price tag. U20 should have at least added stereo speakers and a headphone jack.
Here's hoping there is a U20+ on the horizon which blows the specs out of the water. Otherwise, my wait for HTC would be all for nothing.

Non of them worth how much they ask.
Competitors nailed their phones a lot more this year and also possible better alternatives like Zenfone 7 and Mi Note 11 are upcoming next month.

...And yes, I think that LG Velvet, despite its hefty pricetag will have its customers because it's both a) extremelly aesthetic phone, much different to what we're used to and b) does actually have a premium build with both IP68 and mil-spec rating. Meanwhile HTC U20 has classic xiaomi-ish build with no protection whatsoever and has a classic xiaomi-ish/realme-ish design. It's basically a generic chinese midranger with random 'HTC' slapped on its back.

Desire 20 Pro is epic fail and U20 will be as well, unless by some miracle it's in similar price bracket as the Desire.
Asking 300 usd for a phone with SD665 without any special feature in June 2020 is an absolute nonsense... At similar price you can get either hardware-wise extremelly superior Mi 10 Youth (leagues faster 5G Snapdragon 765, AMOLED or telephoto camera), much cheaper and still much faster Redmi Note 9 OR, if you really don't care about chipset at all, you can get Xperia 10 II which is same chipset at same price BUT it gives you IP68 build and amoled display on top of that... There's just no place in 2020 for this phone, and I'm 99% sure the U20 5G will be over 400 eur where it's exactly the same problem. HTC apparently lives in its own world with no competition, but that's not how you can function these days.

I dont care about hardware that much because today even mid range chipset with average screen can do everything fast and good so its mostly about small features and look.... and we have none of it here...

Companies like LG and HTC just need new heads of strategy, design and product. The fact that they did make some great phones means they still have a lot of that spark in them.

Used two Xiaomi devices in the last 5 years. Used to purchase Nokia only, somewhere from 2003. Their venerable Symbian devices. At the moment, I'm very satisfied with my two Xiaomi phones. Before purchasing the new Mi 9T, I perused the web, YouTube reviews, and even tried some of the phones in one of those big computer and home appliances stores almost every town has. Wasn't impressed with the competition. Sure, some of the phones were good, however the better ones were either more expensive than the Mi 9T, or just not good as an 'upper mid-ranger' smartphone. My second choice was another Xiaomi phone, or a midrange Samsung.
My friends had HTCs, but it was some 10 years ago, when they had really compelling devices on offer. I really liked their design and build quality. They were cool back then. High quality stuff.
These new ones? Not sure. The competition seems just better. Obviously, that's just my personal assessment.
Somehow, for people who don't want or need an expensive phone, there's Xiaomi, Samsung, (I would say Huawei, but their recent trouble with Google pushed me away), and Realme (never saw one in person). Again, just my personal opinion. Others are either pricey, or not good enough for the money spent.
Mind you, this comes from someone who's just a regular user, not and enthusiast or a hacker/genius/expert.

I used to be a huge HTC fan, but now I'm only interested in high-end flagships from Sony and Samsung. No other brand interests me enough to want one..
Also, I tried to vote but it says "Captcha verification failed" ?!
You need a better website admin. The current one is doing a lousy job..

I do think the Velvet is better, but glad to see HTC to finally have something that worth some attention again.

HTC's smartphone design division has already been acquired by Google, the only thing these phones have in common with the htc we know is the logo, and they're doing it no justice with this garbage.
